How many hits can Xizor palm off?

By Dat White Whale, in X-Wing Rules Questions

1) - when defending,

2) - A friendly ship at range 1

3) - may suffer 1 uncanceled hit or crit result instead of you

Xizor 2 thugs and a z decide to fly into a swarm of x-wings... In formation all pilots are within range 1 of Xizor

x-wing 1 fires at Xizor and scores 3 hits...

1) - Xizor defends and promptly rolls 3 blancs

2) - "a" friendly ship at range 1... there are 3..

3) - may suffer 1 uncanceled hit or crit result instead of Xizor

I got three hits.. I learned a long time ago that the only stupid question is the one that's not stated, so here goes;

can I

1) - when defending and rolling 3 blancs, thus suffering 3 uncanceled hit results

2) - palm 3 times one hit to a friendly ship at range 1, i.e. both thugs and the z take an uncanceled hit each, thus palming off all uncanceled hits

3) - to suffer the 3 times 1 damage I couldn't cancel?

or..

does a thug take a hit and Xizor suffers 2?

Under Card Abilities on pg. 8 of the Rules Reference : "A card ability cannot be resolved more than once during the timing specified on the card.

For example, a card with the timing of “when defending” cannot be resolved twice by the defender during a single attack."
So, a thug takes one uncancelled hit and Xizor the other two.

Or to put it another way, it falls under the Once per Opportunity rule (which is the one above). So you can't deal out the hits to everyone else, only one poor sucker.

If the attacker was using a double attack weapon (like TLT or Cluster Missiles) then you'd have two opportunities to distribute the pain, but it's still only one sucker per attack.

(Insert standard disclaimer about Xizor's ability not working on things that cancel dice results, like TLT and ion cannons.)

thanks guys!!! figured as much but some things are better check check double checked

Good point. Forgot about that one. :D

So in a case where Xizor is attacked by by a swarm of 8 academy pilots, each scoring one hit on Xizor, can all eight hits be deflected to all three ships or because it is a case of "simultaneous fire" Xizor can only deflect them to only one ship until it's destroyed and then has to take the remaining damage?

- "Can all eight hits be deflected..." : yes, they can. Each hit came from a seperate attack, which generated its own opportunity for Xizor to use his ability. It therefore follows the "once per opportunity" rule.

- "...defected to all three ships...": Xizor's ability only has the following restriction: that a friendly ship is at range 1. At no point does the card ability states that the any perticular ship at range 1 must be a mandatory target. So feel free to spread the damage around, that's what the ability is for.

- "because it is a case of simultaneous fire": um... why would it be? Xizor is PS7 and academy pilots are PS1. Even assuming a case of simultanous fire (through some weird combo that would send all of these pilots to the same PS), it has no bearing on Xizor's ability.
