What if ordnance did not count towards points destroyed and/or determining initiative?

Had a thought on how to get ordnance in tournament games or non-epic games without requiring more upgrade cards, and without needing to errata any card. Haven't heard this one before.

1) Don't count ordnance to points destroyed when it's destroyed on a ship. Ships with ordnance are big enough early targets to begin with.

2) Don't count ordnance in squad totals when determining initiative. This could be pretty big, a single proton torpedo will mean you will get initiative over a 97 point build without ordnance. Is that too big?

Well, you are being punished for using them, pointswise.

"Cards that require you to discard them as part of the cost of an attack do not count towards your squad point limit".

Something like that?

So free Hotshot Blaster? :D

As long as they cost squad points, they still limit what other options you have.

Should you put R2-D2 or a Torpedo on a ship? R2-D2 is clearly a better choice for those 4 points, and even if those points didn't affect MoV and the like, you are still limiting what you can take in your squad.

Also not everyone wants initiative, so that could be considered a net negative.

Remember that blonde guy from the leave brittany spears alone video?

Need a video of him doing "leave ordnance alone! It's been fixed already!" "It should be used in niche situations less than lasers"...

I would say, more like a rule that says cards with the torpedo, missile or bomb icon and a positive point value do not count towards points destroyed.

You can always choose not to have initiative. The winner of the initiative bid decides.

If you think there's nothing wrong with ordnance, this is not doing anything to ordnance, just to the fact you're punished the more you take it in terms of MOV.

I don't think this is really any sort of substantive change. It just nudges players to pick ordnance a little more. Ships that beg to be loaded up with multiple ordnance such as Nera, Horton Salm and Major Rhymer, might be more attractive, though Rhymer is still so over-costed, that's still not going to do it.

I've been a proponent of allowing a 10 point freebie sideboard of sorts for disposable cards like ordnance and adrenaline rush and Leia crewgana and crewbacca. Various muntions related cards like Munitions fail safe, extra munitions, and deadeye would also be purchasable with those points.

With the release of Crackshot and glitterstim that may have to be limited just to ordnance now that we're getting disposable cards that are extremely good. And Miranda getting crewbacca for free seems disgusting.

Interesting idea although I see a couple potential issues:

1. Not counting those points towards initiative also boost the potential with those alpha strike squadrons. Having the initiative choice can mean you let the other guy move first so you will have range when it is time to get the TLs to fire the ordnance.

2. What happens when ordnance gets tabled? Ok, that's 100 points but if one ship yet survives there could be a lot of phantom points lost to ordnance which may have killed more than its share of the other team. If a 12 point Z-95 uses 4 point shot to take out a 12 point TIE before being destroyed the balance sheet may seem even but at the end of the game those 4 points spent could have been the difference.
