What would an appropriate squad point cost be for the Lone Wolf EPT if it was always on? Im thinking in a 40 point tournament setting, where a super ace is likely to be the only ship in a list. Can a reasonable price be calculated, or is a better alternative just to blacklist the card?
Hungry like the wolf?
at 40 points?
At such point value THE main upgrade is not the wolf, but the Veteran.
because
ARCDOGE

Perhaps change lone wolf to get turned off by any ship at range one or two, out of arc? That keeps the positioning aspect, while still allowing range one shots on the target.
I think 4 points would probably be reasonable. Compare it to Predator at 3 points, which is also always on:
Predator:
-rerolls one attack die (two in the rare cases someone brought a PS1-2 ship)
-can reroll any die, blank or focus
Lone Wolf:
-rerolls one attack or defense die (potentially activating several times a round)
-can only reroll blank dice
I'd say that Lone Wolf is more valuable in a furball, but not hugely more valuable. 4 points should be enough to reflect that, 5 points at the most.

What if you were forced to take at least 2 ships? That way there is actual variety and not just Soontir vs. Poe.
If we assume Lone Wolf activates 50% of the time in a regular 100-point match, you can use that reasoning to say it should cost 4 points.
5 is too much in my opinion.

I agree, for all the reasons mentioned.
