My Tractor Beam guess

By Sanguinary Dan, in X-Wing

Now I'll admit I'm a newb. I've only been playing since late August. But....

I'm guessing the Tractor Beam will put tokens on its' target that reduce Agility on a 1 for 1 basis.

Does that sound reasonable?

If it doesn't work that way, it should! ;)

it should make the ship slower.

the dial becomes redder and all that.

BUMP and your all-green Ceptor is all-white, BUMP and your whites are red, BUMP and your reds can't be chosen at all!

Remember, it's 1pt. Dropping AGI, especially when vs. any attack, is probably worth more than that even without damage being involved.

It's 1 pt but it replaces your attack that turn. Has to do something strong-ish.

Agreed. The price being paid is no chance at damage. That is a very costly in this game. What could possibly be worth forgoing an attack?

I don't think it will be be lowering a ship's agility though, simply because it looks like the mechanics of the tractor beam token will work the same way as a Ion token. If this is the case, a TB cannon would be almost worthless on a low PS ship. I have a feeling that the reduction of the dial next round (green's to white, white to red, red to not legal) is closer to what this canon will actually do.

My guess is the target ship cannot move next turn. As in;

If this attack hits, add a tractor beam token to the target ship.

A ship with a tractor beam token treats its next manoeuver for the activation phase as a <white square>, then, discard the tractor beam token.

it should make the ship slower.

the dial becomes redder and all that.

Does it stack I wonder?

I'll admit I like that better and it does seem logical.

Unlikely, I presume.

And big ships would require two, like with Ions.

Yet with stressing capability it CAN become a thorn in side.

You got tackled by zuckuss at range 2? Tactitian is there to feel your pain.

Still hard to imagine the possibilities. FFG has playtesters, so most likely it won't be broken.

-1 agility would match its function in X wing(the PC game).

I disagree...what if the target is moving toward you? It doesn't makes sense that it should suddenly be harder to move toward the ship that's tractoring you...that's why I like the 0 stop idea. Doesn't make perfect sense, but it "locks you down" regardless of direction.

I could see the agility reduction, but I think there are plenty of game effects that do that already. Plus, the targets against which that would be really useful will be able to arc dodge it; those that you can lock down, you'd be better off just shooting.

A 0 move would in many cases be benificial as the enemy would possibly overshoot or bump into you.

My guess is: green to white, white to red. Remove token at the end of activation.

I am actually more inclined to belive in the -1 agility reduction by the tractor beam, as suggested by the original poster. Why? Well considering the game mechanics of X-wing:

Ion Token: (Restricted to) 1 Forward, normal action, normal attack

Strees Token: normal movement (-red manouvers), no action, normal attack

It makes sense that the Tractor Beam then should affect the attack:

Tractor Beam Token: normal movement, normal action, -1 agility

That would also synergies well with the new XX-23 S-Threads Tracers to really allow you to focus on a particular nastie (Wader, Poe, Sontir, Talonbane) that you would like to eliminate.

It makes turns into banks, and banks into straights. Maneuver is still the same color as the original. Oh and K turn, Sloop and Troll all become regular moves without flipping the ship around. Once a maneuver is revealed and changed if needed then he token is removed. A different kind of control that isn't as drastic losing actions or always moving 1 straight, but similar enough to ion mechanics that it's plausible.

I have a feeling that the reduction of the dial next round (green's to white, white to red, red to not legal) is closer to what this canon will actually do.

Can't preform reds;

preform a white>keep/gain stress > no actions

preform a green > lose a stress/don't gain a stress > get an action.

I believe it will prevent use of barrel roll and boost for one turn.

Random Guess:

Reduces speed of maneuvers by one, cannot perform turns or red maneuvers, cannot spend tokens when defending.

How about this one...you dead in space can't move...can roll green dices...can't spend any thing.... Just locked down....
