I suspect the Ghost is going to be big...

By Herowannabe, in X-Wing

My question is how a PS7, 16 HP, 0 agility, large ship costing ~60 points expects to survive in a TLT and ace-heavy meta.

This guy gets it. This ship is utterly DOA in this Meta.

I also have that feeling, but I wouldn't write it off, yet. It is hard to judge the flexibilty the Phantom brings to that ship. It looks like it has a pretty good dial and it has the ability to combo TLT and Tactician, making it a pretty nice ace hunter (or at least threatener) if there also is room for a Stresshog in that list (Hera might in fact not be the best VCX pilot, maybe she is better off on the Phantom, might even have an EPT there, makes the whole deal slightly cheaper) then the list at least has some place in a TLT light enviroment.

Lets also make a calculation for quad TLT. The Ghost can take one round of fire guaranteed. If it takes the evade action it is not unlikely to cancel 1 of 8 shots, which brings us to 9 hp, which prolongs our life to 3 shots at 1-2 hp. In these 3 shots the Ghost with its 4 dice primary and supporting squad, the Phantom being deployed for most of the game, since you want to put out maximum damage, is likely to remove at least one TLT Y-Wing, if not two. It is an uphill battle, but not impossible. This quick overview ignores the new turret that comes with the Ghost and might be good to fight TLT Y-Wings, damage mitigation through crew (R2-D2 says hello) and how easy you can outmanouver at least one TLT, reducing the damage to 6 per round.

People also are missing the fact that the Ghost is also a bomber. Quite a nasty **** bomber with that rear-arc proton torpedo launcher. Acquire that TL in the joust, drop a Proton Bomb, use Hera to twist your dial around to line up the rear torpedo arc and let rip with a Focused APT. That could easily be a Corran killer if he thinks he can just blow past to regen. PS7 is really not a bad bid, good for wiping the floor with mooks and smartasses like Dash and Kavil if you get the PS bid. For added mayhem, there's the mines. Drop a line of Cluster Mines on a K3q5w5 that zigged when you thought he was going to zag. etc. Note also something called "Reinforced Deflectors" which were even a plot point in one of the episodes. Plus, we don't even know yet what crewman Sabine's ability will be but guaranteed to causing mayhem with bombs.

Green space mom is going to be awesome, and not Yet Another PWT.

Those are all valid points, but it's still basically a fatter Han, with even more eggs in the same basket.

Oh no, that's terrible! Quick, someone, suggest some fixes - now!

be as sarcastic as you like, you will still be dead in two rounds.

Doesn't work, unfortunately. Can only fire primaries in the special arc.

One can only hope FFG have learned a thing or two after the Hound's Tooth.

YV is beautiful.

Not tourney level power, but still beautiful

Hopefully FFG will one day release the YV-666 True freighter. with size not reduced two times.

It may be fun but its not great. At least I've not seen anyone come up with a build that 'really' works. Mostly it's fun for them for a round or two then i easily meander along behind it. Good for fun games but agaisnt competitive lists it struggles.

I'd really like the VCX to be more competitive from day one so heartily echo the sentiment that hopefully lessons were learnt.

I'm just not feeling it with the Ghost at the moment. It may just be because I haven't seen Rebels, but it's my least anticipated X-Wing ship ever.

I'm really looking forward to the Ghost, even though I never watch Rebels either! It just seems to bring a lot of new options. Maybe the points cost will be a bit too conservative (who knows?), but that only means that making it work will require some thought.

In terms of ships, FFG has avoided making the Next Big Thing more powerful than the last. Upgrades suffered a bit more from power creep, but it's still very acceptable. The downside is that not every ship is clearly competitive from the start.

Yeah this next wave stinks of Disney pushing product and ffg can't say no or they lose the license.

We'll have to suffer through it every few years to keep this game going.

But at least we get dengar :)

The Ghost tile has a Torpedo icon in the rear "special" (as opposed to "auxiliary") arc. Can't post the pic but it's on the preview.

I don't think it's a torpedo icon it's a new "Special Arc" icon setting it apart from the Aux arcs on the Firespray and Hounds Tooth. The Ghost doesn't have an Aux arc, according to the rules of Aux Arcs. It's a special conditional arc.

Yep, Disney aims for the 12+ (or 12-) fanbase

and FFG can't do anything about that

Not so bothered about that, as we all knew Rebels ships would be incoming, and the series remains the best hope we have for some of the EU ships which have yet to make an appearance on TV/film (see: Interdictor, Scurrg). Plus I'm eagerly awaiting the Imperial Assault Carrier, so there's that.

It's just the Ghost itself, to be honest. I can't muster up any excitement for it.

You do realize just how many upgrades there are in pack, right? Including a new turret. It would be foolish to just write it off just based on the stats. We know a fraction of what we are going to be getting.

I get you don't like the show, but based on how Peterson and Alex Davy have reacted to questions about the Ghost in the past, I don't see how you get that it was "forced" on them. Alex in particular seems to be a big fan of the show.

I am pretty certain that is the Attack Shuttle icon, not a torpedo icon.

I know they went with it as a way to have bomb upgrades, but it still feels weird to have those options on the ghost when it does not have any of those options in the show.

Gameplay has to trump lore and this might be a decision for the better.

I really wish it had an elite talent though.

That's actually better for the ghost then- no need for a 6-point, single use upgrade that requires a TL and focus to be effective, you can just use your primary gun. 5 dice at range one, 4 at 2-3. Yeah, definitely a Corran killer if it catches him in arc.

I'm only concern with people getting Phantom and TIE Phantom confused.

Despite having the same hp as the decimator, the Ghost has several things going for it to survive in a tlt meta. First, it has a much better cost-attack ratio (since the turret premium is fairly steep), and it gets 2 very potent attacks. If the ship does in deed have a systems slot, it gets access to the very strong recspec & fcs combo, which makes the turret shot pretty scary. Even with 4 tlt, 16 hp doesn't go down overly fast and along with your 3rd 25ish point ship you could reasonably take down a Ywing per turn. So, I am quite optimistic for the ship.

And every actor saying a bad film is great says hi.

It's called promotion they could very well see it the same as me but they wont say that on camera as it's bad PR, they have to push the product to make higher ups happy.

You think every GW rep pushing age of sigmar on people actually thinks it's a good game? they just have to put aside their morals if they want to keep their jobs.

Do you have any better evidence than this?

I am excited for all the Rebels ships in X-Wing. That show has been a great source of entertainment for my family and the Ghost has become one of my favorite ships. Season 2 of Rebels has been even better than the first.

There is some very odd reasoning here. Because Alex Davy has said he likes the show, he actually hates it?

Do you have any better evidence than this?

Given I didn't make a positive claim I don't need any.

I just said even if he didn't like the show he wouldn't say that in an interview.

Just like Jamie Fox knew the film stealth was a steaming pile but went out giving interviews saying it was the best film of the year, then when it was safe he apologised for lying to people about it even his friends.

Interviews are by design misleading as the intention is to create positive feedback from the people watching, only the truly gullible take PR pieces at face value.

So whether or not he does like the show is utterly irrelevant as the only answer he's allowed to give is that he enjoys it.

Just like Jamie Fox knew the film stealth was a steaming pile but went out giving interviews saying it was the best film of the year, then when it was safe he apologised for lying to people about it even his friends.

Hahaha! That's amazing especially if the apology part is true.
