I suspect the Ghost is going to be big...

Now there is still a lot of stuff that hasn't been spoiled for the Ghost/Phantom expansion, but it seems likely that it will probably be the first viable one ship build in the game (pseudo "one ship," that is, with the Phantom docked in it). I think that it's going to be game changing, and would have been game breaking, but FFG foresaw that and began making adjustments before the Ghost even hits the market. Here's why I think that:

First, Agent Kallus will released with the Gozanti right before the Ghost arrives with the rest of wave 8. His card text reads:

At the start of the first round, choose 1 enemy small or large ship. When attacking or defending against that ship, you may change 1 of your focus results to a hit or evade result.

Second, and far more indicative, is FFG's recent change to the MOV rules, stating that you get half points for half damaged large based ships. Many players rejoiced (or lamented, depending) at the new rule because of how much it grounded Fat-PWT builds. But I see a potentially bigger reason for the change. Under the old MOV rules a "one-ship list" fully loaded tanky Ghost could fly in, blow up a TIE fighter or a Z-95, and then run away for the rest of the match, easily gaining a full win. Doesn't sound like much fun. I think it was that possibility- not the existence of Fat-Han- that was the driving force behind the MOV rule change.

So what is the point of all this, you ask? Um... I'm not really sure. It's late at night and I'm sick and my brain is fried and I'm not thinking clearly. But either way I'm excited for the Ghost to come out. I think it's going to be cool. :)

And for what it's worth, I hope this will not be the case. I would prefer it if I still have to fly something alongside a completely 'fattened' ghost/phantom.

You won't HAVE to fly something along side it, but you certainly will be able to if that is what you want.

The fact (if true) that the ship CAN be kitted out as a single ship list does not mean that it HAS to be, or even that doing so is a good idea.

It will be interesting to see just how viable a ghost/phantom solo build will be. It definately has the fire power, but I wonder about its defense. No green dice at range 1-2, but it looks like it has evade in its action bar and a crew slot. I guess you could take an evade token, use EI then use say, lando in the crew slot to try to roll another evade, that would tank it out somewhat. Plus we don't know what any of those pilot cards it comes with do and there may be some help there. It still looks to me it could be weak against certain swarm and TLT builds though even with the phantom equipped.

Punishing One looks to be a game changer too. I wanna see this asymmetrical dial and how to use those extra shield tokens it comes with. Plus Boba crew.

In the interview with the developers after worlds they said it was a big ship. They mentioned it has a specially constructed stand becuase the normal large ship pegs were nkt strong enough to support it.

Yeah, you can see how the peg forks underneath the ship in the wave 8 pictures.

I'm only concern with people getting Phantom and TIE Phantom confused.

This is an attitude I'll never understand.

Just because the game came out with the swarm/multi ship builds doesn't mean that should be the only way to play the game. I think it's great they design ships to be played and be equally viable, be they 2 ship, 3 ship or even 1 ship builds.

Games are more interesting if you get to play different factions and different build types.

Now, that's not to say new squad builds should be superior, we know that's bad from TIE Phantom and Fat Turret builds that dominated the Wave 4-6 Meta, but they have a place.

I guess the ship will have double attacks per round or something like that

Pretty ironic if Kallus is extra good versus the Ghost given his success rate so far :D

Kallus has the image of old greyhaired Wolverine, so he's autoinclude just because of AWESOME.

the greatest thing I can see is that Ghost won't be getting an EPT, so no PS9 boosting 4-attack bigship.

AND it comes with a new turret type, that might (oh the Irony!) be well-suited for dealing with big ships.

Minimangler, anyone? ^_^

I hope the opposite of this. I think it would be awesome to just fly the Ghost and the Phantom (and be able to compete), having to fly a Z-95 or an A-Wing along side would be weird.

But they look so good together!

But ... but ... I need to fly Phoenix Squadron!

Man, the number of topics that get people aroused on this board is starting to get out of hand. When I read reports about tournaments, having a a 'good community' is always mentioned as a good thing, but I guess building that community does not start on the FFG forums.

Expecting people to not mention Season 1 spoilers when Season 2 is well underway is a bit unrealistic, though.

It is looking like Ghost builds will easily be 60+ points.

I am looking forward to fighting the Ghost honestly. It is kinda cool looking on paper, but if you want it to really be super effective it will probably have to get really really expensive. People seem to be forgetting that it has a normal attack arc, and it's aux arc and double attack functions only come when it has the shuttle docked. I am also eager to pair it against my decimator, I want to see how both of the big zero agility ships will fair against one another.

I want to fly that thing! I wonder if you can redock the Phantom midflight somehow to protect it.

A preview article would be really nice to learn those things...

I think re-docking would be pretty cool. If you manage to overlap one with the other, you can re-dock? Maybe.

That would be the easiest way, maybe it is a bit more complicated and you need to overlap on the auxiliary arc.

A barebones Ghost+phantom will be around 60 points and a typical kitted out Ghost+Phantom will be around 75. A one ship build may be possible but you'd be adding in a lot of fluff just to fill points.

The success or failure of the Ghost, for its cost, will be how much damage mitigation or regeneration it can take. Decimators are tanks, also, but they get shot off the board fairly quickly when they are isolated. R2D2 crew may almost be mandatory on it unless one of the Rebels crew has something similar in ability.
