Looking to get into

By kuffdaddy, in Star Wars: Armada

I can't find an inventory list for the cards. Trying to plan out what I want to get, but don't want to double up right away. I play a lot of xwing and IA and in the x starter you don't get all the unique pilots you had to buy the blister for the x and the tie to get all the unique pilots. I am wondering if it is the same for armada? Do I need to get the spare corvette, nebulon, and victory that get the most bang out of each of them. I have already bought the fighter expansions to paint for fun so not w or ride about them

If you want a visual list of the various cards available with each expansion, you can look here. If you prefer to see cards broken down by type (Commander, officer, etc) with their expansion(s) listed, you can see that information here.

Not to knock the other fleet builders, just that I've use Fabs primarily, so I'm most familiar with it. :)

Hi Kuffdaddy, I got 2 core sets when Armada was released. To answer your question, yes, some upgrades only come with the expansions.(eg: XI7's only come with the Neb B, flight controllers come with the Vic.) check out Fabs Fleet generator for Armada, it'll give you a run down on all the cards that come with the ships and it'll tell what they do aswell. :)

Good Hunting and welcome aboard!!

If you're going to run any of the Core Set ships, you're going t want the expansion pack for the ship. Each expansion comes with some of the best titles available for that specific ship, and the upgrades are pretty nice too. Plus, other than the NebB, each expansion comes with another Admiral to command your fleet.

It's really hard to go wrong with the Assault Frigate (other than how ugly it is) and GSD, and you can easily put together 300 point fleets with just those three purchases. And then you can see which of the Core ships you like best, before going forward, but these Core ships do really shine with the titles in the expansion.

You'll definitely want a Core set for Tarkin, Dodonna, Howlrunner, Luke,Wolf Yuleran Just to name a few unigues.

I just wanted to note that I agree with both of these. DO NOT BUY TWO CORES but rather buy the individual expansions for the ships, as the new upgrades are helpful. Furthermore, the Armada Wiki is a great resource for checking which expansion packs come with which cards and vice versa.

You may want to check the link in my signature for a builder/full card spoiler.

Thank you all

Get two cores. Extra everything, including objectives, tools, obstacles etc.

But the thing is you don't need the extra objectives, tools, or obstacles. You'll wind up with 2 Nebulon-Bs but no XI7 Turbolasers or Intel Officers. You'll wind up with 2 VSDs but no Intel Officers or Flight Controllers or Motti. You'll have 12 TIE Fighters but no TIE Bombers, Interceptors, or Advanced, etc. etc. Obviously this can be rectified by buying additional expansion packs, but for example, if you pick up 2 Imperial squadron packs, you'll have 16 TIE Fighters (two of which are aces). That's a huge amount of overkill and doesn't make your purchases as cost-effective.

Should you later decide you want to run a spam list (with those 16 TIE Fighters) but don't want any more upgrade cards or need to replace your objectives/obstacles (because they got eaten by a bantha), you can buy the individually on eBay from vendors who break down the core set and sell the constituent pieces. Past buying ludicrous numbers of things I cannot conceive of a time when I wouldn't want more upgrade cards. I'm considering picking up another VSD pack once it goes on super sale mostly for the Flight Controllers, as it would bring me up to 4 VSDs. I split two core sets with a friend (he took all the Rebel stuff, I took all the Imperial) and in the end it was a bad idea, as I have exactly the same problems I mentioned above.

The only good reason for buying 2 core is if you have friends you also want to get into the game who wont/cant buy their own kit and you want enough for both of you to be able to play. I introduced a lot of people to Armada and I am glad I have 2 core sets for this purpose. The extra objective cards, damage deck, ruler and measurement tool allow you to do this without making compromises to the gameplay or rules (like sharing a damage deck). Otherwise, buying 1 core and the expansions is a better way to go if you are just kitting youself out. :)

I just picked up an extra damage deck from E-bay.

The cards in the expansions are far superior - especially in the VSD and Neb-B expansions. I'd stick with them, not multiple starter sets.

That's what I did. ^

Frankly, if you can get it cheap enough, 2 cores is a fair buy. But yes, you definitely want the expansions as well.

I just bought the 2 cores for the extra tools, damage deck, tokens, dice, and fighters. Also, to help demo the game :)

I thought I'd made a mistake buying 2 core sets, but, like xwing, the extra tools and stuff come in handy when playing often with multiple people.(like league night at my place, where I have 2 tables set up for the 4 of us.). Also one of the Lads chipped in for a few of the expansions which helped alot. However, I agree with you chaps here that its impractical if buying for yourself, unless of course you want to buy 2 cores and can get a good deal on them. These days all the guys have got their own stuff, so I've put the extras away for when the others wear out. :)

No no no no. Respectfully no! This is a bad idea, you save maybe 5-10 bucks in total and will regret it unless you want to have 3 VSD's in the end 3 Nebulon-B's and 3 Corvettes (for the MINIMUM of upgradecards). As long as FFG doesnt release an upgradecard deck i STRONGLY discourage people from buying 2 coresets.

Source: Storeowner, i sold alot of armada sets since it got launched. at the very start it was a good idea, but with Wave 1 there is no reason to get a 2nd. I could have made a good couple extra bucks from people if i told them to get 2 sets because normally they follow up with the expansions because they want the cards.

To the person who said it's good to have a 2nd maneuvertool and dice. Yes of course, you can buy those separate anyway.

Anyone know/have an opinion if buying one of everything (including Wave 2)will give me a balanced experience. Meaning, even though I have all the ships, will one side be stronger than the other and it's perhaps better to purchase a 2nd of another ship to balance things out? I.E. 2 Assault Frigates or 2 Gladiators

Obviously there are builds and strategy for tournaments. I'm talking more casual play. I just want to make sure each side is fair when setting up play.

I think 1 of each capital ship for casual play should be fine. You will end up with 2 CR90s, Nebulon-B Frigates, and Victory class Star Destroyers but that's fine. I'd strongly recommend 2 each of the squadron packs so you can bring more than 2 of each type of squadron should you desire to do so.

If you want to splurge a little bit, I might recommend:

+1 Assault Frigate

+1 Gladiator

+1 Raider

But otherwise you should be fine.
