Let's Talk: Strongholds of Resistance

By Blackbird888, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Looking forward to picking this one up.

I'm just curious on the rules for the stealth ships (not the whole ships stats, just the stealth rules). Is it a mod or integral to the ship(s)? Are they just reprinted rules for the stygium cloaking device?

No, they aren't. The stealth device works by reducing the range of passive sensors. They do have a reprint of the A-wing's ability in addition.

Its interesting now that I think about how heavy on the Empire at War Forces of Corruption introduced ships the last copule of books have been. Strongholds has the MC30C while Mask of the Pirate Queen has the Keldabe, a reprint from Dangerous Covenants, and the Interceptor-IV plus the Starviper which wasn't introduced there but did appear in it. I wonder if this was planned or just chance?

I don't have the rule/books in question on hand, but in general it is a combination of both. Certain "stealth" ships use a combination of mods and devices to mask them. Like wise, those designed for stealth from the word go are either very expensive, lightly armed/armored, or require specialized materials. Pick one for the fighter in question to not have.

With the current rush job by the Empire of the Mouse for it's own canon, FFG is probably going through the old EU and are bringing in ships that either look cool or are impressive in their own right.

This is especially true once you consider that there are no new books being made for the Legends. This means that, quite effectively, there are no new ships, characters, planets, or technology that is being introduced that is going to mess with the previous books.

I'm just a bit curious as to how their going to explain what has happened in universe for Episode 7. While it is nice they bought in various books to explain what has happened, it doesn't mean people will read it. Especially since quite a few readers were burned on the Legends' later series.

Well we know the Black Sun, Hutt and Zann Consortium organizations do exist in canon, and we know Black Sun used Interceptor class Frigates during the Clone Wars as well so the idea of there being an Interceptor-IV class by the OT isn't too out of reach.

I own all Core, all Beginner Boxes and all sourcebooks + all the different cards, six sets of dices, Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, Force and Destiny. I got it all but the adventures and all the pre-made characters you can buy on the side. What annoyes me most with the entire series that FFG has released is that each sourcebook promises new species, sure they are new when you own one of the games, but imho, for the future, if the species has already been added in a sourcebook, as in already in excistance within another sourcebook please add a fourth species not already used in any of the other releases.

I've liked most of the material released within all sourcebooks this far, but Strongholds of Resistance being the one on the short end of the rope.

This is why -

The species are Verpine was the only species not already used somewhere else and that one was a good one, Quarren sure great species as well but already used twice. The Polis Massan to this date most useless species ever added to a sourcebook imho.

If you want strongholds of Resistance you should 1) Make sure that the species do resist, 2) the species can talk without being an exception and 3) make sure it can work within a PC group without being special.

If you ask me, while at it if using the "new" movies Fantom Menance, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, for species please, have a look at species such as Tof, Nagai, Zeltrons, there are species fit for a Stronghold of Resistance sourcebook if you ask me.

Most locations could be found within West End Games products for decades now.

This game is great, no quesiton about it, this is constructive criticism.

Me spending over 768+ EUR on FFG Star Wars books is proof of good products overall.

Kind Regards:

Finally, at least in regards to the Legends EU, the Mon Cal ships weren't given a lot of time for drydock and refit for the war effort. It wasn't until the MC80, such as Mon Remonda (sp?), that were designed with non-Mon Cal in mind. And Mon Remonda was also built from the shipyards, where as Home One was refitted after being built.

Aka MC80Bs post RoJ that have been a bit more optimized and improved hull over early MC80s of Original Trilogy time.
