few questions on what happens next!

By Darknight4, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

ok guys, really enjoying this game, but as usual a few questions to get things straight.

1. in my movement phase i move from first section of the other world to the second, do i instantly travel back to arkham or have an encounter, then travel back?

2. when you fail a skill check via not enough dice, by a modifier, it says you auto fail....BUT you can spend tokens to roll dice, soooo if i auto fail and lets say take damage (or would have too) is this not really an auto fail as i spend tokens to pass it? and not take the damage, only taking damage and auto failing if i have no tokens.

3. if i move onto an open gate, with a monster, do i fight/evade then get drawn through the gate, or ignore the monster?

4. bad luck this one, moved back from other world and had 4 monsters on the gate, ignored for first turn back, but i played it next round that i was allowed to close the gate before seeing to the monsters with horror/fight/ evade, was that right?

cheers for the help

You have an Other World encounter that turn, then you return to Arkham in the movement phase of the next turn (assuming you're still alive).

Spending clue tokens can allow you to pass the skill check even if the modifier reduces your base number of dice to zero. So if you're making a -3 Lore check (for example) and your Lore is only 2, you can still spend clue tokens to roll dice. Each clue token spent always lets you roll one die, regardless of how far below zero your skill was reduced to.

You have to fight or evade the monster. Then (if you're still alive) you'll be drawn through the gate during the Arkham Encounter phase.

Nope, sorry! You should have dealth with the monsters during the movement phase that turn, then tried to close the gate during the Arkham Encounter phase. So if you can't survive the monsters earlier in the turn, you'll be off to the hospital/asylum before you get a chance to close the gate.
