Bossk ability question

By Krynn007, in X-Wing Rules Questions

If my opponent attacks with hlc on bossk

Roll hit hit crit

Changes crit to hit, then with mercenary copilot change the hit to crit.

I get to roll before he modifies with bossk ability?

So if I rolled three evades, could he then change the crit to two hits, or I cancel it out before he gets to that point?

Yes, he has to wait until you roll and modify to use Bossk's ability.

If he has 3 hits and a crit, and you only cancel 3 results, the crit is still there (as you cancel hits and then crits) and then he can turn it into 2 hits.

Bossk Pilot ability triggers during Deal Damage, which is after all of the rolling and modifying and the Compare Results step has happened.

Thanks

I should have realized but didn't.

Way we were playing is he'd roll then change crits to extra hit before I rolled defense.

No wonder I couldn't beat bossk.

Was thinking this was op.

Well it's good to know

Kind of obvious but wanted to make sure

Thanks

Bossk's ship card ability with Lone Wolf, Mercenary Copilot and Mangler Cannon. I ran into that yesterday what a combo. I was wondering from looking above when do I get to roll my agility dice? I'm confused about the modify attack and defense dice steps and when these abilities trigger. This is what happened during my game: Attack Roll (3 dice for a 2 Hits and 1 Blank), Lone Wolfed the Blank to a Crit then used the Bossk ship ability to change the Crit to 2 Hits for a total of 4 Hits. According to the example above I should have been able to roll my agility dice before the Bossk ability triggered, did I miss anything, order?

Bossk: When you perform an attack that hits, before dealing damage, you may cancel 1 of your "Crit" results to add 2 "Hit" results.

Lone Wolf: When attacking or defending, if there are no friendly ships at Range 1-2, you may reroll one of your blank results.

"Mangler" Cannon: Attack: Attack 1 ship. When attacking, you may change 1 of your "Hit" results to a "Crit" result.

Mercenary Copilot: When attacking at Range 3, you may change one of your "Hit" results to a "Crit" result.

Thanks ahead of time.

OK, so...

1: Roll to hit, roll b, h, b

2: defender rerolls/mods attack dice, I'm leaving these out for simplicity.

3: attacker rerolls - Lone Wolf rerolls b to f & modifications - spend focus f to h, spend Merc Cop[ilot h to c, mangler cannon h to c, end result h, c, c

4: Roll evade dice, rerolls and mods to evade dice, glossed over for simplicity

5: Compare results - if there are any uncancelled crit results, Bossk can change one of them into two hits.

6: Deal the resulting damage

Your opponent rolls.

Defender (you) is allowed to modify his results first. Say with Sensor Jammer or Elusiveness.

You didn't.

Attacker is allowed to modify his results. For instance by spending a target lock or using Lone Wolf ability.

He does so, he rerolls using his card ability from Lone Wolf, then he uses his card ability from Mangler Cannon and he used his card ability from Gunner.

For the moment, the attack part is done.

Now you get to roll your defense dice.

After rolling, he gets to use his abilities to modify your dice, for instance with Juke

Then you get to modify your dice, using a focus token, evade token, autothrusters, etc.

Now you look at how many hit and crit results his dice are showing and compare them with your evade results.

If he has more hits and crits than you have evades, the attack is deemed a hit.

This is the step where cancellations occur, the Ion Cannon, Flechette Cannon, Crack Shot and Bossk.

Finally there's step 7: the actual dealing of damage.

Accuracy Corrector is a special case, occurring during step 3: modify attack dice.

Yes you should have rolled first.

After you roll if you didn't cancel any crits bossk ability could trigger

This is quite a common mistake. Bossk's ability has very particular timing, as stated above. A lot of guys seem to be using him during the Attacker modifies dice step, which makes it quite nasty, but still incorrect.

Bossk MUST be used after the Compare Results step.
