In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream (In Frustration)

By TaeSWXW, in X-Wing Squad Lists

PILOTS (97pts.)

Sigma Squadron Pilot (33)
TIE Phantom (25), Mara Jade (3), Advanced Sensors (3), Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)

Omicron Group Pilot (32) x 2
Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Fire-Control System (2), Ion Cannon (3), Tactician (2), Mercenary Copilot (2), Ion Projector (2)

Sigma stays cloaked at all times, decloaking only to block aces and then using AS to immediately recloak and get an evade.

OGP's fly towards the center from the corners so that whichever one is not engaged can "swoop in" and protect the other. Goal is to give everything on the board a stress or ion token.

If you are going to keep Sigma cloaked all the time, might as well give him a stealth device. Advanced Sensors shouldn't really matter here. Sensor Jammer would be better (you can re-cloak after decloaking using your regular action, well, unless you get blocked or fly over a rock, then advanced sensors is handy).

Having said that, spending 33/34 points on a ship whose only purpose is to deal stress to ships within R1 is not a really a very efficient use of points. You are missing out on a pretty potent 4 die attack by doing so...

Also, without engine upgrade, those shuttles can easily get outmanoeuvred and then all those upgrades go to waste. At the very least, drop Merc co-pilot & ion projector for the engines. You still have the ion cannon + tactician combo (or mara jade if tactician is out). Alternatively, have one shuttle with Ion Projector + enhanced scopes and the other one with advanced sensors + engine (so it can actually turn around fast and get shots repeatedly in the event that ships get passed your cock-blocking shuttle---).

My thinking is AS means even if you bump you can still hide and while I say 'always cloaked' it would decloak for movement and bumps. I suppose, however, more careful playing and use of Enhanced Scopes on the Phantom reduces the risk of loss of action due to bump.

As for the shuttles, the positioning is going to be what keeps them alive. They should be split at turn zero and should converge on each other allowing for a large amount of board area control and the Phantom is still available to chase and block.

Swapping the FCS out for ES, however, gives me room to drop the Mercenaries and put in Gunners for double stress opportunities:

Sigma Squadron Pilot (31)

TIE Phantom (25), Mara Jade (3), Enhanced Scopes (1), Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)

Omicron Group Pilot (34) x 2

Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Enhanced Scopes (1), Ion Cannon (3), Tactician (2), Gunner (5), Ion Projector (2)

Cooked up in another thread:

Omicron Group Pilot (29) x 2

Lambda-Class Shuttle (21), Enhanced Scopes (1), Ion Cannon (3), Tactician (2), Ion Projector (2)

“Echo” (42)

TIE Phantom (30), Mara Jade (3), Sensor Jammer (4), Intimidation (2), Stealth Device (3)

With Intimidation on Echo it would make the Ion Cannons even more effective.
