BTL-A4 & TLT

By MonkeyInSpace, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I'm struggling with the wording on this card -

btl-a4-y-wing-1-.png

Am I right in understanding that this means if I attack with my primary inside my primary firing arc, I can then immediately roll to the TLT, thereby getting 3 attacks?

Are there any caveats or gotchas?

thanks in advance

The main caveat is stated on the card:

You may not attack ships outside your firing arc.

The other is the range restriction on the turret - in the case of TLT no range 1 attack

The lore is that the BTL-A4 variant of the Y-Wing lost its crew seat for a greater munitions payload and had the turret, normally operated by a gunner in the crew seat, in a fixed firing position (usually fixed forward).

TLT is not the turret for the BTL title (in my opinion). I think you're much better off with a turret that allows a R1 shot. Ion Cannon is the obvious choice I think. Strip tokens with the primary attack, and then Ion them with the follow up. You know exactly where they'll be next turn: rinse and repeat until dead.

While this is generally true, I think we have to concede that Mr. Heaver demonstrated an important exception: BTL-A4, TLT, and R3-A2. Here, damage output is a secondary concern, as the real utility of this Super Stresshog is in being able to induce 2 stress on a target at range 3 just by declaring your primary and secondary weapon attacks. There are a number of other threads discussing this particular build so I won't say too much here other than to note that our 3-time World Champion thought it was good enough to include as the only pure control element in his Championship list.

Someone brought Paul's World's winning list to the shop the other night. They were mopped off the table in a few turns with the StressHog going down as the key target. The player is very experienced at X-Wing, just not with Paul's build. Just because someone else finds a build successful, and even if they win World's with it, doesn't mean that everyone else who plays it will be successful. That build plays to Paul's skill and ability to see the board, and understand the limits of his squadron.

Also, the Y-Wing wasn't wasn't the only control element. The Z95 Bandit was also a control blocker.

Clearly I was completely wrong and my previous post should be disregarded - OP, avoid the TLT Streshog build at all costs because the above anecdotal evidence suggest that you're not good enough to fly it and that I don't know what I'm talking about. Sorry to have wasted everyone's time.

I'd actually go for an Ion Stresshog. Ion and Stress is incredibly debilitating. And since the 1 forward is green for the Y-Wing, the stress doesn't really matter too much.

Guys what is TLT?

Twin Laser Turret

Thanks
