Three Ship Rebels

By Red42, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've predominantly played two ship lists up until now but for the last few weeks I've been playing around with three ship Rebel builds. Partly to do with tournament scoring changes with MOV but also partly so as to play something different. I've tried various combinations and think I've finally settled on this. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts:

99 points
Pilots
------
Poe Dameron (40) T-70 X-Wing (31), R2-D2 (4), Weapons Guidance (2), Veteran Instincts (1), Autothrusters (2)
Horton Salm (33) Y-Wing (25), BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0), R3-A2 (2), Twin Laser Turret (6)
Biggs Darklighter (26) X-Wing (25), R4-D6 (1)
I've tried some others combinations (everything has been basically Biggs + 2 from: Wedge, Jan, Poe and Horton) all with fair success in the test games I've played, but I think this one seems to have the least weaknesses.

That looks like it could be a fun list. Do you fly Biggs and Horton together and flank with Poe or do you tend to fly them all in formation?

The one thing that would worry me about that list is that Horton is kind of expensive to be locking his arc down and loading up with stress. If he's not able to get shots off you've lost a large amount of your squad's firepower.

I fly them all together, that way Poe can use Weapons Guidance whilst Biggs is still alive and not worry about saving his focus to modify green dice since he won't be rolling any. Between that and his pilot ability, he almost always gets 3 hits. Once Biggs is gone, you have to be a little more defensive-minded.

Not really had a problem with Horton not getting shots, at PS 8 it makes him harder to dodge than a traditional PS 2 Gold Squadron. And his ability helps mitigate the loss of actions somewhat. I did play around with dropping him down to a generic, but the points you save don't really buy you anything useful.

Interesting list. I like this 3 rebels thing and what you've done with Horton Salm. I might try using Horton in a build.

I've been experimenting with trying to keep Biggs alive as long as possible and brewed up this,

X-Wing Biggs Darklighter 25 pts
R2-F2 3 pts
Experimental Interface 3 pts
X-Wing Wedge Antilles 29 pts
Integrated Astromech 0 pts
R2-D2 4 pts
Draw Their Fire 1 pt
X-Wing Poe Dameron 31 pts
Integrated Astromech 0 pts
R5-P9 3 pts
Draw Their Fire 1 pt
TOTAL 100 pts
where you keep Biggs alive using R2-F2 with "Experimental Interface" to gain an additional agility and a focus each turn for Bigs, while Wedge and/or Poe soak up any critical hits on Biggs using "Draw Their Fire" with their astromechs to replenish their shield. If done right, Biggs might even survive the game.
Alternatively, with Poe, swap R5-P9 to BB-8 and swap "Draw Their Fire" to "Wingman", e.g.
X-Wing Poe Dameron 31 pts
Integrated Astromech 0 pts
BB-8 2 pts
Wingman 2 pt
"Wingman" can relieve Biggs of the stress.

Poe really likes R5-P9 because he wants to keep his Focus through the entire round anyway, and then gets shield regeneration without limiting his dial options.

I was originally playing R5-P9 with this build for that very reason. The downside is, if you get blocked, suffer multiple stress (from a stresshog or similar), Carnor Jax/Palob are nearby, or really need to boost then you can't focus. R2-D2 counters all of these situations because it's not action dependent. Plus I'm playing Weapons Guidance here, which means I sometimes want to spend the focus to maximize damage. With R2-D2, I can do that and still regen a shield.

I think you can make the argument for either droid, they're both really good on Poe, and it's really a matter of personal preference/play style.

I should also note, Biggs gets Integrated Astromech as soon as it's released. I know some people have been proxying it already, but as I develop my lists for competitive play, I don't feel there's much point adding it until I can actually legally put it on the table.

I would like to throw in a triple T-65 squad:

Garven Dreis (26)

R2-D6 (1)

Opportunist (4)

Integrated Astromech (0)

Luke Skywalker (28)

R2-D2 (4)

Opportunist (4)

Integrated Astromech (0)

Wes Janson (29)

R5-P9 (3)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Integrated Astromech (0)

Total: 100 points

There is still some debate whether Garven loses his EPT if the astromech is taken away with integrated astromech.

As this is optional you can always keep it as a last resort to keep him alive just a little bit longer.

Garven always passes his Focus token to Wes Janson so Wes can get a shield token back at the end of combat :)

I also have a slight variation which looks like this:

100 points
Pilots
------
Biggs Darklighter (25)
Poe Dameron (38) T-70 X-Wing (31), R2-D2 (4), Veteran Instincts (1), Autothrusters (2)
Miranda Doni (37) K-Wing (29), Twin Laser Turret (6), Tactician (2)
------
