Weapons - Crit Rating and Weapon Attachments

By bubblepopmei, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have a character who is both an NPC in the game I GM and a PC in a game that has just begun.

She's using a Cornet Arms H-7 "Equalizer" Blaster Pistol.

Ranged Light

DMG: 7

Crit: 2

Range: Medium

Hardpoints: 3

Qualities: Superior, Stun Setting

Superior grants an auto-advantage, meaning if she nets 1 additional advantage she crits, I believe. Is that correct?

If she uses 1 HP to add a SoroSubb Bantha's Eye sight, it grants an auto-advantage.

If she has superior and the sight, she receives 2 auto-advantages. Does this mean she crits every successful hit that doesn't eliminate the advantages in net?

She's a talker, not a fighter so she's not likely to use the weapon. In fact she conceals it in her trenchcoat most times so it isn't discovered.

Yes, as long as the damage exceeds Soak.

Thanks! ^__^

NP, njoy.

She CAN crit. The advantage never HAS to be used on a critical injury. That choice is up to the player/GM controlling the character. If she isn't much of a fighter, perhaps she doesn't crit unless something rattles her, etc.

But yes, with superior and the bantha's eye, every successful attack with no left over threat will be able to add a critical injury.

Also keep in mind that the laser sight only grants Advantage on checks that succeed. This is a given when attempting to cause critical injuries since the attack must hit in order to do so, but it can be an issue with other uses of Advantage.

To clarify what people have said this is how I understand it works:

If she hits the mods will generate two advantage. If there is no threat then she will have enough to crit.

She could hit and have one threat netting one advantage not enough to crit.

Hope that helps.

You get an automatic Advantage from Superior regardless of whether the check is successful or not. You only get the Advantage from the sight if the check is successful. It matters for weapon effects and using Advantages when a check is unsuccessful.

The OP is clear she needs to not have her Advantages not cancelled by the initial roll and says so in her post.

It's true critical hits are not an automatic occurrence, the attacker decides how Advantages are to be resolved, but I don't get the impression she was implying that it is automatic.

Critical hits only happen if the damage exceeds Soak, whereas certain effects can be triggered without exceeding Soak.

I think it is a well-said point that I would likely choose to recover strain or pass boost rather than exploiting a crit.

My character is a cruel but charming Falleen woman climbing her way up the Black Sun. She's an NPC Black Sun Vigo in the game I GM and I enjoyed her so much I've ported her over to another game. We will have crossover PC/NPCs in both games! I think that's so fun.

She definitely enjoys criting people but she hides her blaster in her jacket and generally prefers to talk, manipulate, and otherwise face her way into and out of situations. When she pulls the pistol, she may want to recover the strain she experiences triggering her pheromones.
