Dunedain

By Slothgodfather, in Strategy and deck-building

Since Dunedain are now definitely in the habit of keeping enemies around - thanks Amarthiul - I'm building a deck and want advice on the third hero, which I feel should be tactics but am open to other ideas. Note this is for group play, not likely to be used in solo.

Amarthiul, Halbarad and ???

Tactagorn

Beregond

Mablung

Ori

Without messing with elf-friend, I plan to use Gondorian Fire and Rohan Warhorse to deal with enemies when the time comes.

Spirit could give access to cancels and the Trackers. Lore could give access to Sarn Ford Sentry, East Road Ranger and Wingfoot as well as Snare!

Hmm... what about Amarthiul, Leadership Aragorn and Damrod? Amarthiul still gives access to some light splashing of tactics. This Aragorn is better suited for his artifacts and Damrod makes Snare easier to deal with and brings in Wingfood for more action advantage.

unrelated - what is Leadership Aragorns nickname like Loragorn and Tactagorn?

If it were solo I would go for Grima. I do feel that Forest Snare is a key card, so Damrod is a good option for traps as a whole. Leadership provides the necesarry resources. Halbarad or Aragorn are both solid options.

I just call him Aragorn, but I suppose it's Learagorn. I never see him get a nickname though, so because he was firstborn he is just Aragorn.

Beravor could work also. If you have Amarthiul then it makes sense to have a lore hero to help you draw cards and get two Forest Snares out as soon as possible. But if it's for group play it's hard to beat Tactigorn in terms of combat ability.

I've heard both Leadergorn and Coreagorn. There is also a Fellowgorn, and in the future possibly a Spiragorn.

My only real dilemma with using Damrod is that he is currently in a Gandalf/Rossiel trap deck that is too much fun to take apart. Might try out Beravor since I honestly never use her.

Or I could go with Loragorn and use a different second leadership hero. Halbarad, Faramir, Prince Imrahil or Erkenbrand could all prove useful.

Damrod or Beravor are likely the better options though.

thanks for the info on Leadagorn. and yes, I really hope there is a Spiragorn sometime soon!

My plan is to go for more of a tactics route. I think Thicket of Spears will be very useful in a Dunedain deck when you are engaged with many enemies. Then you can use the sentinel and ranged of the leadership/tactics Dunedain allies to help out other players. Amarthiul + Mablung will give extra resources to allow for other cards in addition to Thicket. You could cheese it with Hama for the third hero, but I'm leaning towards Boromir or Tactigorn. I might also turn it into a bit of a valour deck, because Horn's Cry could alternatively give all of your enemies -3 attack for a cheaper, weaker version of Thicket.

But for your deck if you are starting with Amartiul and Halbarad with Amartiul as your main attacker, I would probably go lore for the third hero. Damrod if you are going trap heavy, otherwise both Beravor and Loragorn would be good.

I have been very impressed with Mablung. I think he would be pretty impressive with that line up. You could go tactics/leadership with a lot of resource acceleration already built it. All you would need is card draw. It would have a strong valour capability with the favor of the Valor to keep you from threating out. I might try it myself.

Card draw is going to be the only thing really lacking, but with the resource accellerants we can more easily afford Gandalf, Legolas and Erestor. Add in some Foe-hammers and Valiant Sacrifice and should be set.

Yes, card draw seems to be lacking in this style of deck, played one last night with Tactagorn/Amarthuil/Halbarad. What are people's suggestions on implementing card draw for a leadership/tactics deck? I looked through my cards after the game was over and could not really come up with much of anything useful.

It's pretty much just Foe Hammer. My strategy when making decks with limited card draw is to just include a lot of expensive cards instead. The Dunedain allies are generally pretty expensive, so card draw shouldn't be quite as important.
