Common Mistakes

By Parravon, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Asteroids do not give stress. Most common newbie misunderstanding, further complicated by FFG releasing obstacles that do give stress, lol.

Include a section on how the stress bot functions with TLT, and how Tactician functions with TLT and Cluster Missiles. Explain how TLT and CM's declare their target once for both attacks and can't split the attacks amongst two targets.

Pretty sure that's already covered in the FAQ, and I'm not re-writing the FAQ. It's a quick reference card, not a list of case by case scenarios.

OK, after much re-arranging and shuffling things about, I've managed to squeeze all the maneuver details for each ship (Small, Large and Huge) onto the new version. I'm just waiting on Wave VIII maneuver dial information to complete it all. It was something that was requested multiple times a while back but the lack of space meant it wasn't an option back then. It is now! :)

However I have a little bit of room to fill so I thought I'd try and include some rules snippets that cover common mistakes. So far I've added the rules for Auxiliary Firing Arcs, Deploying Docked Ships from other ships and Large Ship Barrel Roll.

EDIT: Typos & ship name.

I'd recommend leaving off the rules for "deploying docked ships". They cover one ship. Also, your wording is confusing. "Deploying" hidden internal ships like the Hound's Tooth is different from launching "docked" externally-mounded ships. Plus, the rules for docked ships were only in the FAQ for a couple of weeks. They vanished when it went to 3.2.3.

They're actually the rules that are still in the FAQ for "Deploying Ships" and they will be covering the Ghost and the Gozanti cruiser, and it's only 4" in a 3-column layout, so it's no biggie. I see what you mean about the Docked Ships rules vanishing from the latest FAQ, though. That's a bit of a mystery. I'd have to assume they're going to release those rules with the Ghost and the Gozanti cruiser.

Just because Tycho doesn't care about stress doesn't mean he can do red maneuvers.

There's only one red on the A-wing dial. As the "Psycho" pilot he can turn better than 180° so the K turn is not really needed.

There are two, the 3 and the 5 K-turn. And I know it's not really needed. I've seen it happen a couple of times though that people have "Tycho ignores stress" imprinted in their brain, forgetting about the K-turns.

And not everyone flies him as Psycho all the time, there are different layouts.

I'm not sure if it's in your 'Modify Dice' section, but people in my area are constantly surprised that an Evade token counts as a dice result in the case of Autoblaster or Ten Numb.

Point them to the FAQ. Evade tokens are considered to be dice results, and as such, they're no use versus Autoblasters, or anything else that ignores hit results on dice.
