Two Weapon Combat. Have I got this right...

Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldnt find anything on the search function...

So.. have I got this right...

Player in question wields a vibro rapier.

He has Brawn 4

3 Ranks in Melee and 1 Rank in Brawl

Presuming he can attacked with his Rapier AND his free fist... would this be correct:

Determines his Primary Weapon: Rapier.

Skills and Characteristics involved: Brawn and Melee, and Brawn and Brawl.

Skill with Lower ranks: Brawl.

Characteristic that's lower: Brawn. (Obviously)

Resultant dice pool: Same as an Unarmed attack: 3G 1Y.

Difficulty is 2P for both. (Since he is engaged). But increased TWICE because the skills involved are seperate (Brawl and Melee), so overall difficulty is 4P.

So he would be rolling 3 Green, 1 Yellow, and 4 Purple. With a chance of Hitting with his Rapier 4+2+Success, AND Unarmed, 4+Successes. Assuming he gets at least 2 Advantage or a Triumph on his original roll.

Correct?

Presuming he uses a Vibroknife instead of his fist... the pool would be exactly the same 1G3Y and 3 Purple (One increase in difficulty, since both weapons use Melee and Brawn)?

Correct?

You are correct.

But am I correct if he mixes the skills?

Have I got the difficulty correct?

Yes, your dice pools are correct. Mixed skills is best summed up, pick everything sh*tty to make the dice pool.

Awesome.

Noones ever considered it in my game, besides one player whos now left, and was duel wielding blasters and knuckle dusters.

By the sounds of it, its pretty much a waste of time unless you have very similar Skill levels and Stats, or high levels in both, the additional difficulty seems to make it a bad trade off unless you have some really punchy weapons.

You still select primary weapon for the roll, so with a tricked out weapon with some ranks of Accuracy and Superior and a Laser Sight, you can make up some ground for a crappy dice pool.

I have found 2 weapon fighting does not start to really work till you have 4 dice in your pool with at least 3 yellow.

Without any talents like a "Swashbuckler" wielding 2 weapons with different skill/stats associated is very difficult. Thematically I love TWC, gunslinger is great but a Swashbuckler is high on my list.

do we have talents like that?

So the Gunslingers "Guns Blazing" talent reduces TWC checks when using 2 ranged light weapons.

I can imagine a re-skin of this talent to cover Unarmed, Lightsaber, or in the case of a Swashbuckler the check when using 1 Melee and 1 Ranged light weapon at the same time. The Spitfire talent could be re-skinned too.

The other talent I thought of that makes it a bit more elegant is to allow a Ranged Light weapon to be used with the Melee skill, thus meaning on a TWC check both weapons use the same skill, thus reducing the difficulty by 1.

IMHO you should never be able to make it as easy to use 2 different weapon types as it is to use 1, but to be able to decrease the difficulty from Formidable(4) to Hard(3) would be great. It's such a thematic thing to do I hope it's in their plans.

A Swashbuckler should also be charming too I think, basically take half the Charmer tree and talents based around 1 Ranged light and 1 Melee weapon.

It's basically Jack Sparrow, but in space. And I have no idea where it fits in, perhaps Bount Hunter, otherwise Soldier. It's probably not happening though unless there is EU that supports it in some way.

I did something along these lines in our Conan conversion, and put it firmly in the Rogue category. Given that that's where both the Charmer and the Gunslinger live, it seemed like just the thing.

Here's a step-by-step guide to Two Weapon Combat that I did up awhile ago when I was getting confused by it. It should be accurate and complete. If it isn't, let me know and I'll change it.
