Epic: what's yours favorite setting for Imperial Raider?

By herry92, in X-Wing

I recently bought the Raiders to play in epic and as it contains many improvements and you can do so many combinations, I wondered quele was the most effective for you or those you rather have?

I can not understand what is superfluous and what is not, such as guns and put in that section of the ship, which title to use.

quad runs rear, turbos front. i always went engineering team was an autoinclude.

and about title?

how can i make this ship more resilient? like recover the shiel ecc...

Shield tech has his uses in that, but really, your huge ship is gonna die. You have to either distract fire from it or protect it as much as possible. Huge ships need to be slim, efficient things.

I use mine as a book stand.

surely is a wonderful ornament!

I like to see them setting on the shelf in its box. Eeeeeek. Lol

My buddy I play epic with uses turbo on the front and quads on the back but I am really considering when I run imps (always play rebels) that I'll just toss 3 ion batteries on it and run it slim for a fighter hunter.

Favorite setting? Well...

MAXIMUM FIREPOWER! INTENSIFY THE FORWARD BATTERIES.

I mean I wasn't setting that thing to stun, I can tell you that.

Cubicle patrol for mine.

I don't think you will be able to get the energy for all those guns. Raider can do some serious work with just its main gun. I would suggest that you put a hard cap at 125 points for the Raider. Really can be effective with just a few upgrades. Maybe one ion battery on the back and crew to flavor.

125 for a huge is about right, gotta keep them slim.

Epic games should have a 1 huge requirement, as their pointsweight in fighters is usually better.

My Raider for a recent epic game had Single Turbolaser on the front, Ion Battery and Quad Lasers on the back. My other upgrades were Grand Moff Tarkin, Engineering Team, Tibanna Gas Supplies, and Backup Shield Generator. No title.

Engineering Team and Tibanna Gas give you a lot of extra energy over the course of a match, enough to keep your guns all full and firing a good percentage of the time. Backup Shield Generator punishes your opponent for not getting enough focus fire on the Raider to take it down quickly, at a reasonably low cost. Tarkin, meanwhile, is an incredibly effective passive support card.

Alongside this, I had Captain Jonus giving rerolls on the secondary weapons and Palpatine in a shuttle providing automatic die adjustments. I kept both of them close to the rear of the Raider, on opposite sides, while the rest of my fleet moved forward to engage the enemy.

Overall, this was a pretty effective loadout, especially when I managed to get targets in both my front and rear arc at the same time so I could hit them with 3 to 4 attacks in a single round.

We have an epic league going and so far, I have done very well with this:

http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Galactic%20Empire&d=v3!e!130:25,61,65,65,90,92,83:30:-1:;129:64,91,66:-1:-1:

I also have Howlrunner and the Emperor in a shuttle. Together, they ensure that my Raider will most often do 3 x 3 to 4 hit (crit) attacks each round. If there is a B-Wing or a Y-Wing in range, it will die.

So far, no one has managed to even cripple a section of my Raider :)

If there is a thing the world needs, and yet is sorely lacking in; that thing is Raider builds. I've heard it time and again, "The Epic Ships aren't worth their points; fighters are better bang for your buck."; this needs changing.

If there's one thing we've proved on this forum with the X-wings, Defenders, and bombers of all sorts, it's that any ship can be made viable with a proper build and educated piloting. I think this maxim applies to the Raider too.

Honestly For all capital ships i'd give them a free reinforce each section, and let the reinforce add a second. The reinforce however is negated by torpedoes and hardpoints (possibly missiles and bomb/mines). Only for multi-section ships (corvettes and larger). Otherwise dem caps are just too easily chewed through.

This way the Vettes are a real tough threat, but can be taken down REALLY easily by anti-ship weapons.

What if you had no weapons emplacements (gasp!). Just slap on the Impetuous title and Gunner and go to town on enemy small ships for just 108 points. That's three 4-dice attacks in a single round! I'd throw on Grand Moff Tarkin also so that I could take a Focus token away from the ship I'm targeting (114 points).

To be completely honest, I wouldn't run it so thin. I'd probably add a Quad Laser Cannon to the aft section just so I'm not totally helpless after ships fly past the danger zone (We're up to 120 squad points). I think Sensor Team is helpful in case you destroy a ship and need to lock onto a ship at range 4 (124 points) but not really necessary. Because most shots are Primary Weapon attacks, "Howlrunner" could be helpful, too, but the Impetuous title already grants free target locks, so a case could be made that she is redundant here.

That's actually a really good idea. My only concern is that it's all too easy to get into the Danger Zone.

There's a highway.

Quick tips to successfully use a Raider:

- Deploy one pack of asteroids near the enemy corners (range 2 of the enemy edge, maybe range 1 or 2 of the neutral edge)

- Deploy the Raider near one of your corners, facing directly the opponent's corner (do not put it at an angle, it makes it harder to deploy your escort if you do)

- Deploy escorting ships in a way so that they can quickly get between the Raider and an alpha strike deployed directly ahead of it (those asteroids I mentionned earlier? They are to block the round 1 alpha strike).

- Calculate the first 3 moves so that you don't accidentally crush your own ships (don't laugh, it can happen).

- The role of the escort is to be a pain for the enemy fleet so that they are hard to ignore (range 1 shots) and cause bumps (diminish enemy efficiency).

- The Raider, meanwhile, takes its shots as needed, focusing on high value/low agility ships.

They are other ways to use a Raider, but this tactic works pretty well.

Oh and last but not least, do not, under any circumstances, expose the rear of the Raider (or of a Corvette for that matter) to the concentrated firepower of another huge ship. I once one shotted the rear of a corvette when it turned, inflicting 6 crits in the process (mercenary copilot... you were well worth your 2 points).

I go with the Varaider (Darth Vader, Sheild Tech, recovery title) and use secondary weapons that extend the range. Range 5 force choke!

Raider-Class Corvette: Raider-Class Corvette (Fore) (50)

Tibanna Gas Supplies (4)

Single Turbolasers (2 Energy) (8)

Raider-Class Corvette: Raider-Class Corvette (Aft) (50)

ยท Moff Jerjerrod (2)

Weapons Engineer (3)

Sensor Team (4)

Engineering Team (4)

Backup Shield Generator (3)

Quad Laser Cannons (2 Energy) (6)

Single Turbolasers (2 Energy) (8)

This is how I run mine, its made for long range combat vs other huge ships. Any title works on it, but not needed imo. Also can switch out the Moff for any huge ship only crew or repair droid. I prefer the Moff as sometimes you can't keep long range and can dump weapons engineer and Moff to shake off two crits. Best to stay on edge and not going in the middle if the play area.

You know what the nice benefit of this is? You can spend your energy on other cool things, like Backup Shield Generator or Slicer Tools. Even Shield Projector is a viable card when you aren't wasting energy on weapons. If they get "Whisper" or Fel full of stress, or tagged with an ion, you can spend some energy and say, "Nope, you're targeting this behemoth instead."

The more I think about it the more I want to try it out!

great help are there, thanks!
