Force Awakens Expansion?

By vyrago, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

How many feel this is a possibility? Do you think we'll know enough about the new characters to make IA Heroes of them? Would it be a missed opportunity not to do some kind of movie tie in, perhaps around the spring/summer when TFA hits on Blu-ray?

Do we want to see Kylo Ren, First Order Stormtroopers, Captain Phasma, Finn, Rey and BB-8 in Imperial Assault?

Not only possible, quite likely I think. They'd be stupid not to.

Agreed. So far we only had a couple of Force Awakens X-Wing ships, nothing more. Considering they have paid to extend their rights also on the new material, it would be non-sensical if they didn't push new products in each of their lines

I think we'll probably see a TFA related expansion, or more likely new core set, after they've gotten through Return of the Jedi in their expansions.

Though i'd prefer a Rebels focused release, a TFA product seems pretty inevitable.

I highly doubt it will be a full core set. More likely similar to Hoth deluxe expansion.

It would make sense that we would see a TFA core set (plus big boxes, small boxes, etc) once Episode 8 is out, since they would be bridging the gap between the two movies and the massively different time frame would mean most of the existing campaign would be too "soon" to be playable as a big box expansion. Plus, you have all those new models, like First Order Troopers, and sexy Captain Phasma. Yum.

I'd buy that for a dollar. (even a hundred of them)

I think it's a certainty we'll get a big box expansions or alternate core set for the new movies. They have the rights to the new content and there will certainly be a lot of buzz about the new movies.

Don't expect main characters to be heroes if this does happen. They would likely be allies - like the main characters currently in each set.

I expect an announcement before episode 7 is released.

All the toy makers and ffg released episode 7 stuff on force Friday, in September, the new x-wing core set was announced and in stores on the same day.

There was a Disney imposed ban on spoiling content before then.

It's important to remember that only toys for the first 1/3 of the films have been released.

Toys for the other 2/3 of the film will be released in time for the movie/Christmas.

There is another date where toy makers and ffg will announce and release episode 7 content.

I expect an IA announcement, and possibly a release, then.

I suppose the grease on the parts will be that once Return to Hoth comes out, all existing tiles could be used for TFA locations.

Jakku: Desert

Takodana: Forest

Starkiller Planet: Snow

Put me on the alternate core set wagon. I just see the time period as too big a jump; FA is 30 years after the core set campaign.

I would say you are far more likely to see a Rebels campaign first (and I really hope we do see that). The Force Awakens stuff will still be under wraps for too long to have them get out a TFA campaign remotely close to the end of next year, I'd say closer to 18 months.

X-wing gets away with it since there is almost no "story" element included. It is same reason why the LCG won't have any TFA content for a good while.

They'll try for Christmas of 2016.

A Rogue One expansion might be more likely. And also in the correct timeframe.

Which they could also release alongside a Rebels expansion(s) or after, if they wanted to use Rebels as some sort of lead into Rouge One.

This is what I thought, but then I looked at Dark Obsession. It is time periods 1-6. The story is that Vader is looking for Luke as Luke is sabotaging an imperial reactor (or something like that). So either, time period 1 is set after ANH or Luke helped the rebellion before ANH, right?

A Rogue One expansion might be more likely. And also in the correct timeframe.

I hadn't even thought of content being released from the spin off movies. Good call though and I hope they do. The cast look like interesting characters!

They should have called it "Imperial Assault The Movie."

If this game follows the same release format that Descent does, after Return to Hoth, we'll see a small box expansion, like Twin Suns, and then another big box expansion. I'd be willing to bet that this 2nd big box expansion will be set in the TFA era.

I'm hoping they put off this new Disney stuff as long as possible. Fantasy Flight seems to me more than willing to thumb their noses at the Disney's draconian "cannon" issues. If you look at the new Return to Hoth expansion and you have both the HK assassins and the Tank all taken from video game sources.

There immense opportunity in the original Star Wars time period. If they must do a DSW TFA game, I hope for a clean break and a new core set. Then they can continue flesh out the original time period. (Personal I would love a Dark Forces expansion)

I expect a big box for incoming TFA. New Core base game is smarter movement from a merchandising point of view, since a lot of possible young players will be introduced into the game with the new film, because their parents come from old original trilogy and it could be an amazing Christmas present.

I agree it's likely, but when is another matter - unlike with X-Wing (or even Armada) there's a lot of OT stuff still to make for IA, particularly locations (though these can double for FA locations as somebody else has mentioned).

Not only do I expect to see a new core set instead of a big box, but I hope to. I think this would work for two reasons: First, it allows us to get it if we want to, and it allows new customers to join just that game if they don't want the OT one. Additionally, I see (as I have expressed before) the 30 years between 6 and 7 as being too long for this game.

While I guess there could be a market for it, Imperial Assault has a much higher cost of entry than say X-wing. Not to mention that most general stores wouldn't carry it, so the kids or parents would only find it if they searched online stores or checked out a local game store. And even if they find it at say $60 at Miniature market the kid just as well might want to buy a video game they could more reliably play with other people, for example Star Wars Battlefront.

And on our side, I'm sure there are a quite a number of people who may be turned off to the idea of another core set after having the game only be out after a single year, just look at the issue they had with the Force Awakens X-wing core set. so much so they went back on their declaration that you needed the damage deck from that set to compete. And again, a new core set for Imperial Assault or Armada are much more costly than X-wing. And if people think that the new core set would be optional just think back to the first core set and the multiples you needed to get to run Royal Guard lists for skirmish, who knows what new figures they could add that might nearly require the purchase to have more competitive lists.

And despite all that if they did release it I'd end up buying it, but I would prefer a boxed expansion instead.

I think a new core would be a bad idea personally. This game already suffers from a high entry point cost. Hopefully we hear something sooner rather than later one way or the other.
