So didn't FFG promise changes at Worlds?

By GiraffeandZebra, in X-Wing

I don't smell anything sinister in their failing to make a big announcement. If that was the plan, obviously something significant changed, and the change mooted the scheduled announcement.

No one said there was anything sinister. Their issue is they consistently over promise and under deliver.

Sorry but .. frankly thats just BS.

They made no such promise, what they said is that they "planned" to make an announcement. They said planned, you heard promise. This isn't a problem with FFG making promises and not keeping them, this a problem with your hearing.

There is zero need to be so rude nor am i only referring to this one instance or even just X-Wing related.

So have I and I can tell you that this is the sort of non-sense that gets posted all the time. considering how convoluted, disorganized and dishonest most companies are, we are lucky to have FFG so if you want to make stuff up and trash talk them... well .. be ready to be called on your BS.

Dat Glorious!

yes Steve Horvath promised an announcement when he was at GenCon that would be made at Worlds. Nothing was announced at all. I have asked him but have received no reply. FFG has an issue with broken promises that they really need to fix.

I heard through the grapevine that they said they will now not be announcing anything till next year.

Except that they aren't always 3 months late???

I can't remember when they weren't and I've been playing since Wave 3.

Part of the issue is a misunderstanding of fiscal quarter vs actual calendar year. If Wave 8 hits sometime in February 2016, that would still count as quarter 4 2015.

Pretty certain they don't use their fiscal calendar for the upcoming page.

Pretty sure I don't even know what that means.

It is possible they could be though...they talk about thr release dates in quarters...we really have no idea what their fiscal calendar looks like or what it is divided into...perhaps they simply copy and paste release dates on the upcoming page from a master file.

Not saying I don't lean more toward your understanding...but we really just don't know.

Depending on what they count as fiscal years of course. Seeing as this is quarter 1 of 2016 where the US federal government is concerned, as far as I can tell.

Pretty certain I've seen January releases as Q1 releases.

The argument of fiscal calendar vs. regular calendar is something I saw frequently back in 2011 when I first started frequenting these boards. Since then, all the evidence I have seen points toward FFG using a normal calendar where Jan-Feb-Mar = 1, Apr-May-Jun = 2, Jul-Aug-Sep = 3, Oct-Nov-Dec = 4. I would be shocked to find that this isn't how they've been doing calendars for the past 4 years.

As to the original topic. Sure, nothing was announced at Worlds. But, based on what has been said, I think the Flight Crew announcement is the first step in whatever changes could be happening.

And again, L5R, which has every chance to be another massive tournament game for them, was probably forced some rethinking in their plans.

makes NO sense at all to use a fiscal year, when talking to the public.

in some internal paper I can definitely see that ,but never-ever in a public announcement.

They don't need to announce anything until next years worlds event announcement, which gives more time for adjustment and refinement, and prevents people from saying, if you had this solution after gencon, why didn't you change it before this worlds? Etc...

On the other hand, revealing your hideously awful plan early lets people tell you it is awful and you still have time to change.
