Dawnblade / Rage Blade question

By NuSair, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I have Syndrael (Knight Class) currently equipped with the Rage Blade, and we just won the encounter to get the Dawnblade. I am having a hard time choosing which weapon to use (another member of the group is wanting the one I don't pick) and was wanting some opinions to help me decide. My class skills are Oath of Honor, Advance, Defend, Defense Training, Guard, and Shield Slam.

Dawnblade is better statistically. It targets two monsters with a surge vs pierce 1, 1 damage; that is amazing. One surge vs two surges to add +3 damage. Damage > pierce, and extra attack >>>>>>> pierce, even if its situational

If you are the knight, you excel at defeating a monster in a single action, then attacking another in the same turn. Rage blade is great for that. However, the Dawnblade does make it easier to get that +3 damage. I would think it depends on who the other hero is. If he has a way to guarantee a surge, then it might make sense to give him the dawnblade for reliable damage or extra affected monsters.

The other hero is Lindel (scout- wildlander). He just got the Bow of the Sky, the melee weapon for him would just be for conditional use.

Then give him NEITHER of those weapons. You should be doing attack 1 with the dawnblade, attack 2 with the rage blade when applicable. Maximum damage potential from both heroes.

I thought that you could only change equipment at the start of your activation?

I see what you are saying- at the start of activation, choose between the two blades and my shield---

I am reluctant in giving up the shield completely because of the class cards associated with it.

Yeah the shield actually makes this a tougher decision. The dawnblade is a better one handed weapon in most cases.

The rage blade is good, but is only potentially better than the dawnblade on a second attack with the added green. On a first attack, it isn't really better than the bow of the sky (especially since he probably has bow skills), so your scout probably won't use it, even for attacking adjacent monsters.

I still think you should keep them both so that on the turns where you just need to deal damage you can equip both swords and leave the shield unequipped.

The rage blade isn't helpful enough to justify giving away, and isn't better than the dawnblade such that you should equip it instead. Honestly, this is a rare scenario where if you find yourself needing gold for armor, sell the rage blade.

My answer will be a bit different than the others. You really are not giving us enough information and are asking the wrong question.

The correct question to ask is "what will make my team the strongest?" Then you should give us the other guys set up. Unless heroes think like team they usually do poor.

From the information you have given me I think your character likely should have the rage blade as with advance you frequently will get off 3 attacks a turn and likely will get off more attacks with a green die than your buddy.

The whole group is

Syndrael /Knight

Lindel /Wildlander

Elder Mok /Spiritspeaker

High Mage Quellen / Runemaster

Syndrael currently has the Rage Blade

Lindel just got Bow of the Sky

Mok has the Staff of Light and the Grinding Axe

Quellen has some rune weapon - honestly don't remember which one

We are doing the Heirs of Blood and just received the Dawnblade. Which, is the quest just before the finale.

I agree that it is what is best for the team. Mok and Quellen have no use for either weapon. There was some talk of Lindel taking which ever weapon I didn't to use when he was in range for melee. Then in the shop, we flipped the Bow of the Sky.

If I remember correctly, Lindel's abilities are Nimble, Accurate, Eagle Eyes, Bow Mastery, Fleet of Foot, and Black Arrow. I think. - that seems like too many points, but he just picked up Black Arrow and I am pretty sure he had bow mastery.

Anything else you need to know?

With those skills I don't see why Lindel would ever not use a bow if he could. Rage blade really seems best in your hands, unless you want the grinding axe- but you've got the dawnblade.

That is helpful info. In my mind, unless there is something worth buying, I think your character should hold onto both and select each turn based on which is more useful at the time. Lindel should always use the bow.

thanks, I appreciate all the advice.
