Forbidden Bounty Query

By Gribble_the_Munchkin, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster.

I've just got the Rogue Trader Rulebook and thought about running Forbidden Bounty as my first endeavour.

Checking the profit rewards for that and comparing them to the ones in the main rulebook it seems that Forbidden Bounty has a much higher profit factor reward than any kind of endeavour listed in the rulebook.

In Forbidden Bounty you get a flat +10 PF for completing the endeavour with an additional +4 for various side benefits.

The biggest endeavour in the rulebook, by contrast, is the grand endeavour, which should take months to complete, be very hard and be major actions such as conquering worlds, etc. These grant PF rewards of 5-6 (or even more!).

Despite the (or even more!) comment, Forbidden bounty seems overly well rewarded. Has anyone else encountered this and adjusted the PF reward accordingly? If so, what did you put it at?

I was contemplating just halving the rewards making them fall pretty much inline with book, with a little more to introduce them to the void. I also plan on chaing the location from the Battleground, to deeper in system, and most likely make the enemies a genestealer cult with the worm, instead of the zombies and undefeatable enemy except by doing a side quest or not intuitive act to get past his defenses (Reminded me a lot of running Baron Hope in DH).

Halfing the rewards sounds good, i might do that.

It'll be their first endeavour so i don't want to give them the wrong idea about how much PF boost they'll get from a typical endeavour.

I too worry about the unkillable navigator. My players don't tend to even think about retreat as an option. I threw them up against a squad of 8 Chaos Marines last night and they still spent the first turn blasting away before they got it into their heads to run. Thankfully one of them (playing an arbiter) was a 40k player and remember the correct procedure for dealing with Chaos Marines. RUN!!!

Hi!

Well, maybe they'll learn the hard way by doing "the Cthulhu (it's not if you run faster than the critter, but if you run faster than your companion trying to outrun the critter)". Often-times PCs don't react with the same common sense as real people.

I think some encounters are meant to be approached in different ways.

I left the PF where it was (and my PC's maxxed it out at the full +19 PF), turning their PF of 40 to a 59. Forbidden Bounty I didn't feel was a regular endeavor, having at its heart a Halo device. Looking at the premade crew & what their premade ship is makes it look like they probably have one of the 10 or 20 profit factor ones, and giving them a good addition (at +10 if they only do average) would turn that into something respectable and give a first time crew of gamers a real sense of accomplishment to springboard off of. I'm pretty sure that the PF being what, 2-5 for the endeavors in the book don't have the breakdown of bonuses and negatives that this one does, and I figure those final numbers are modified after mishaps, costs, bonuses, etc, making them more the average of what you should get for that style endeavor than the max (I have to re-read the chapter though, when I did it was very very late at night).
