How to use YV-666 in competitive play? I am trying and trying, and always have to conclude he gets too expensive with too much upgrades. Some interesting and competitive list and build ideas where you still have room left for other ships?
How to use YV-666 in competitive play?
Any pilot:
Bossk Gunner Tactician
=)
R1 dead
R2 stressed and dead
R3 Gunnered to dead.
Bossk marksmanship K4 gunner (Tactician if you want)
I use either k fighters or y wings with him.
Bossk vi gunner engine upgrade (k4)
This bossk plays like RAC, arc dodge with high ps and boost. Circle on outside. I normally run this with ig88b or vi boba, as you'll need another priority target to let bossk slip behind.
Imo the other two named pilots are too expensive for a support ship and cannon platform.
Slavers are good naked, make great targets to let yours aces flank. Kinda like a palpable and two aces list.
Edit: I ran bossk marksmanship gunner k4 intelligence agent engine upgrade and ig88b vi hlc advanced sensors Autothrusters in my last tournament and went 4-2 losing only to decimator whisper and crackshot tie swarm.

I had some success and fun using Bossk in the Galactic Cup Preliminaries running him with Calculation, Gunner, and Tactician. It comes in at a "cheap" 43 points, and presents difficult choices. Due to calculation, I can make sure I have at least one <kaboom> showing, and due to the tactician+gunner combo, the enemy doesn't really want to cancel it. As such, the kaboom translates to two damage. Without the Engine Upgrade, he runs the risk of an opponent getting behind him and staying back there, but the 180 arc and the white 3 turns keeps that from being AS much of an issue as the shuttle has.
The support I ran with him was N'dru w/ Clusters, LW, and Stims, and Cobra w/ ID and Predator. I wouldn't recommend that support though, the lack of reactionary actions means the entire list is kinda a sitting duck. Though that could be because it was the first list I played competitively after a year of AAE.
These are good ideas. I just want to avoid too expensive ships because it´s not very agile and go down quickly. And to have more than 2 ship build would be good in the new meta
Yeah, Slaver with Gunner, Tactician, and Bossk Crew is the best way to run them. **** effective for 38 points.
YV-666: Trandoshan Slaver (29)
· Hound's Tooth (6)
Z-95 Headhunter: Binayre Pirate (12)
Z-95 Headhunter: Binayre Pirate (12)
StarViper: · Prince Xizor (31)
Predator (3)
Autothrusters (2)
· Virago (1)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Inertial Dampeners (1)
This is a xizor swarm I've ran before. U can customize to your liking but the Hound's tooth title adds even more zs for xizor. I've thought about just putting feedback on slaver but only if you needed points or wanted to upgrade two pirates to a k fighter or named y
I've been mulling over how to use the YV-666 myself lately. There is a tourney coming up in a couple weeks and I want to use the YV in my list.
I'm partial to Bossk w/ Marksmanship, Gunner, Tactician, and Engine (49) but I don't know what to pair him with. I am going to test him with IG88-B this week at game night, another option is Bobba Fett and the last idea I had was a named HWK w/ Bodyguard and TLT shenanigans.
I haven't tried Moralo, but I plan on trying two different builds for him at some point. 1st: Moralo w/ HLC, K-4, Outlaw Tech(46); nothing unique here though I really want engine upgrade if I can find the points. 2nd: Morale w/ Ion Cannon, Gunner, Tactician(44), season to taste. Just make him a control freak, if he catches someone in range 2 they are taking stress + ion or two stress. Two BSA with upgrades could pair well, or maybe a squad(4) of Z95s? Something to take advantage of ioned/stressed ships.
I have used Latts Razzi and it went well. Great support ship but a little pricey the way I build her: Latts w/ K-4, Weapons Engineer, Engine(43). I really like engine on the YV-666. I hate not having a shot when the arc on these things is so huge.
I'm going to agree with a number of others and go with Slaver with Bossk, Gunner and Tactician. Very effective. I ran him with 2 TLT thugs and a Z as a blocker, but I think there are probably better things to put with it.
I've also been trying to get Bossk to work. I like him with Calculation, Recon and Gunner, but I haven't decided what other upgrades I should give him (K4, Outlaw tech, Tactician, Fins, EU, Feedback Array) I have been pairing him with Boba to cover the massive blind spot and Bossk does hit very hard.
I am trying to find a good combination for Latts Razzi with Bossk and Gunner crew
Latts: "When a friendly ship declares an attack, you may spend a target lock you have on the defender to reduce its agility by 1 for that attack."
Friendly ship includes himself. I think Gunner doesn´t wrok out because it´s a separate attack and Latts ability would be gone then?
Maybe just combine with K4 droid? Or weapon engineer to support attack of other ships?
Played with Bossk (pilot!!!) a couple of times.
Because Bossk! There is no other reason then that.
And I used the title, every time, just because i painted up a pup and yeah you know you want to have the Title because of Bossk is flying the Hounds Tooth!.
But man, those 6 points for the title hurt! Thats a Gunner and Calculation ... or a Jawa, Security Droid and VI.
The title is just a Gimmick. In the games I've played this Z95 gave me nothing. It was eiher Bossk was the last ship or or it popped early and the pup popped in the following round.
It was the fun of launching it. Thats all.
I think the title should be an auto-include for 0 points to let the YV-666 see some action competitively.
And Bossk should keep his EPT while in the Pup.
Right now I don't think I would take a Bossk to a tournament.
I have no good feeling in doing so.
And if I did I would use the title ... and at this point you just can't effort the title.
You are going to need this 6 points elsewhere for something that gives you actually something without the need to lose your most precious ship..
So, Bossk + title is for fun play only ... sadly ...

So, a really, really expensive Accuracy Corrector. ![]()
Had some fun the other day with a simple Slaver + Hound's Tooth alongside Xizor and a couple Z's. Xizor shunted a good half dozen damage off onto his wingmen and survived to win the day. For 35 points, the Slaver and Pup provide a lot of hit points for Xizor.
Latts likes Weapons Engineer.
Edited by ObiWonkaBossk is ok with a Mango cannon, Sec. Droid, Jawa, Dampeners and any Elite skill ... Crack Shot for example.
Bossk gets quickly far too expensive but you struggle to get the investment back.
Havn't played the nonBossk pilots yet.
You could also lay a trap:
YV-666: Trandoshan Slaver (29)
· Hound's Tooth (6)
· Greedo (1)
Thats 36 points of lol.
Kit this list out with something you don't want to lose.
I've had pretty good luck running the PS2 without any upgrades. Use it as a big blocker and meat shield while the rest of your list rips into theirs.
Tripler Slaver w/ K4 and Damps each; I went 5-1 and made second place with it at a tourney.

Sounds like a decent plan, why not give it Ion Projectors or Anti Pursuit Lasers if you plan on just blocking with it though?
Best way in my opinion, to make it competitive, is to have your opponent fly it
HAHA!
It's not nearly Knave levels of suck. The YT can work, it's just that it's overshadowed by things like the IG.
Hi,
i played:
Palob Godalhi
-wingman
-blasterturret
Kavil
-unhinged astromech
-autoblasterturret
-opportunist
Moralo Eval
-gunner
-mangler canon
it worked quiet well.
Palob and Kavil stay always together and are goint close to the enemy.
Moralo stays behind and supports from the back.
Greetings
H
I just want to alter my previous statement and say it looks like a coffin for a reason.
@OP:
Step 1: Pick up your YV-666.
Step 2: Pull back your arm.
Step 3: Orient toward your opponent.
Step 4: Move your arm forward in a rapid motion, while releasing the YV-666.
Step 5: Win the match by default.
I actually made a post a while back about using the YV-666 (Bossk in particular): https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/186642-the-best-friends-of-bossk-for-you-road-to-national/?p=1763891
A lot of theorycrafting at play then, but it's held true in practice. Anyways...
Bossk w/K4 and Calculation. Alternatively, Marksmanship and Gunner.
Everything else is to taste.
Personally, I prefer MM or Calc over Mangler for my Bossk crit generation since it works in all of his arc, while the Mangler only works in the primary (and you're effectively losing an attack dice in R1). Mangler is still solid if for some reason you have a really pressing reason to use that EPT for something else, as running Bossk without a crit-generator of some sort is just silly. It'd be like Fel without PTL or Farlander without something to stress himself with.
The big weakness of the YV-666 is it's ho-hum dial and 180 blind spot, and I think that's what his squadmates need to account for. It's also part of why I'm vehemently against using two TLT Ys as a YV's escort. The YV-666 already struggles against fast ships that can flee behind him, so why escort one with ships who are innately weak (especially in only a duo) to high agility autothrustered ships? You're practically begging Soontir Fel to slip in and shrug off the plinks. So for wingmates, a YV-666 (Bossk in particular) really wants something that can cover that weakness. Say:
1. Khiraxzes with Crackshot. High agility ships can be kept at bay if charging for the rear of your Freighter O'Doom if it means charging into the teeth of something that can rip through their high agility and leave em' dead. Maybe not quite as good for Soontir hunting as the other wingmates, bu otherwise well rounded fighters for the squad that can fare well against a number of opponents.
2. Bug Zapper Zs. Honestly, maybe the most effective (though in appropriate numbers may call for dangerously low PS and/or cutting upgrades from the YV-666). Still, Carnor Jax is less likely to ruin Latts's day if she has four Feedback Arrays nearby. However the Headhunters just aren't as formidable against non-arc dodgers, and should you run into a high HP/low agility list they might struggle.
3. Warthog Ys with bombs! Really want Y-Wings flying with your YV-666? Well, as fortune would have it there's another viable (and I dare say better) choice. Ions can make it difficult to get behind, and stay behind, a YV-666 and bombs can be a solid deterrent. With that said, I'm still not sold on a trio of 1-agility ships. Sure, worked with the Krusty Komedy Klassic in World's, but I'm paranoid for the opponent who will think like me and start loading up Cluster Missiles. Ever seen what happens to a Y-Wing when it meets a Cluster Missile carrier? It's not pretty.
4. Another big ship! IG-88, Boba Fett, Kath, whatever! I've flown Bossk with Boba Fett before to impressive result, and can imagine a well-built IG-88B or Kath Scarlet doing similar. Just the old strategy of "you have two choices, and both of them probably suck". Do you try to slip yourself behind the YV-666 and let the IG-88 tear into you un-contested, do you go for the hard-hitting HLC carrier and let the YV-666 lumber from behind doling out its own damage while hoping to break the IG's defenses quickly? Just make sure the other pilot in question is absolute murder that your opponent doesn't want to try and ignore. Maybe be super obvious about it and throw Outmaneuver on IG-88B.
At least that's just my thoughts on wing-mates. I, personally, plan to spend some serious time messing around with Khiraxzes, Headhunters, and seeing how often The Hound's Tooth title does or doesn't temper aggression towards the world's sexiest rusty brown block.
The real key is avoid falling into the trap of making it too expensive (50pts max, and even that is starting to push it and you should never, ever hit 50 without using the title) and making sure the rest of the squad is able to cover its weaknesses.
Alternatively, Trandoshan Slavers are wonderful blockers. You don't even have to throw anything on them... though Intel Agent, Navigator, and Maneuvering Fins is an extra 5pts to make you incredibly obnoxious.
One option Bossk has (and it's an interesting one despite making the Mangler pretty much mandatory): get Expert Handling. Large ship barrel roll + Tac + 180 arc is flavor country. You're probably going to be looking to do greens most turns to get the most out of K4, so what are you worried about?
