Fun 3 Ship imperial build. Filler better than dark curse?

By EbongHawk, in X-Wing

Stepped out of my rebel comfort zone last night and ran the following:

Darth Vader

Predator

Twin Ion Engine

Advanced Targeting Computer

Title

Krassis Trelix

Heavy Laser Cannon

Recon Specialist

Dark Curse

Shield upgrade

Had success with it. Didn't remember I had predator until game 3 (always forget that I have taken it) but even without the use of it the list did well. Won the first game tightly, lost the second, and crushed the 3rd. My opponent agreed that the other two games would have probably swung my way. Also had a munitions failure turn two with Krassis in game one or it may have gone better. A lot of what ifs but the list was fun, fairly easy to fly, and tough to kill.

I only really ran Dark Curse because I couldn't think of a better 20pt filler for imps. I know we don't know the exact value of the Advance Prototype yet but I assume that at PS2 you can assume the generic will cost 18 or 19 at the most (Inquisitor is ps 8 @ 25 pts figuring 1pt/ps and 0pts for his ability puts us at 19.) This ship isn't out yet and a certain gaming company won't give us a preview so what else would you recommend in this slot? Any changes you'd make to the rest of the list? Thanks guys! Have a good Monday

Alpha Squardon Pilot + Autothrusters?

Can't say I've tried it, but it definitely blocks better and hits harder than DC.

I'm liking the TIE FOs. I'd take Zeta Ace + a 2 point EPT of your choice, or Omega Squadron Pilot + PTL. They have the same hit points as Dark Curse. Zeta Ace is a better blocker, and hits harder if you have an offensive EPT like Crack Shot. The OSP with PTL hits harder because you can stack Focus/TL, and is nearly as tough because you can double up on defensive actions.

drop Tie-mk2 and get Zeta ace with PTL

shenanigans galore

I like Dark Curse at 16 points, but not so much at 20 because of the lack of offense. The TIE/FO fills this slot nicely. I really like Biophysical's suggestion of Omega with PTL. It can turtle up when needed, but also bring the pain if it's not the target.

Along the same lines, Mauler Mithel with PTL makes a scary flanker as well. You're trading off the FO's target lock ability and shield for an extra die at range 1. Hmm I think I like the FO better though.

Edit: 2 other options I just thought of, but both involve dropping the twin ion engine from Vader.

1. With the extra point, you can simply throw in a lambda shuttle. 3 attack dice and 10 hp to chew through, but very difficult to fly without any upgrades.

2. Keep Dark Curse, but drop the Shield upgrade, and put an engine upgrade on Vader instead of the twin ion engine.

I see youre debating a filler pilot... at 20 points. If you drop Tie Mk2 on Vader you can get another Tie Adv. Tempest. Annoying, reliable and obnoxious!

This is probably what I'll do. I liked the higher ps of DC but in all honesty the 2nd Adv is probably the way to go.

I think a naked shuttle would hinder me more than anything, a lot of health but I just don't think it is there.

Really considered this originally but not having the option to boost made me evade more often and it definitely paid off (though I suppose not being in arc would have better results)

Zeta Ace came to mind right before round 3 and the only real thing that kept me from popping him in was that I hadn't used the tie/fo yet. He is one that I will certainly try in this build. I have been reading good experiences with the /fo and although I am still skeptical myself you can't argue with results.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I my modest experience with FOs, it's like flying a stock TIE fighter, but for the first few games you keep finding all these little neat things you can do with them. You're not going to get the most out of them the first time out (true of any ship, obviously), but you'll likely not screw anything up so badly that it really hurts you.

PS2 it moves before most things.

Accuracy corrector assures constant threat of damage. 'decent' dial (for blocking) Barrel roll and Evade actions along with 3 dice to help survive/block enemy ships (accordingly) also i find that people target my blocker more than they do my aces ( when i run them with aces such as Whisper.Vader) maybe its because its the only thing in arc, but even when there is a choice they go for the scrub... i dont know why... other than hate for action denial.

Naked bombers are surprisingly solid. Backstabber or Mauler aren't bad choices, either. Mauler + VI + Hull is the same points (I believe) and he's PS9. Vader and Krassis are the big threats (at least to me) so that'll give you a chance to get Mauler into range 1 for some 4 dice shenanigans.

That's more effective than Dark Curse + Shield, I'd say.

How about this for 20 Points?

Scimitar Squadron Pilot with Seismic Charge and Extra Munitions.

It can block and poop out bombs when advantageous.

Edit: or a Proton Bomb for 21. A guaranteed crit if it hits.

I'd do Prox Mines, but it sort of just depends on what you like.
