Capital ship as a mobile base of operation

By SolkaTruesilver, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I definetly do not believe the PCs should own a ship of their own. But just because its their base of operations, it doesnt mean it would necessarily be exclusively THEIR base alone.

Just.. You know, a friendly port run by other scoundrels you trust (or jointly owned in part by the PCs). Something of a Smuggler Coop. The sort of place you could stash some precious stuff, or lay low to avoid the heat.

Hell. That sort of communal group could take the form of an Obligation of its own. After all, they have to pitch in the ship's budget, or defense, etc.. At times.

It all depends on the scope of your campaign. Are you playing a game in which the PC's are trying to build their own smuggling/shipping operation ala Talon Karrde? Or is your game one where the PC's just barely surviving on the edges of space? Either game is a viable and fun campaign to run/play in, however in the first example, the PC's owning ship (or ships) isn't that unlikely, whereas in the latter example, it is highly unlikely for the PC's to own a ship beyond their starter as they are probably scraping just to keep it running.

He said in his first post, as well as the one you replied to, that he isn't intending for the PCs to own the large capship base.

Thank you Captain Obvious.

Hey, I'm not the one that apparently missed it and typed up a whole response based on not understanding OP's first post and asking them questions they answered in the first few sentences of the thread.

/shrug

The questions were rhetorical seeing as I answered them in my own post, I was merely pointing out that PC's -can- in fact own capital ships depending on the scope of your campaign, I can understand that given the media I am using to communicate it is quite possible for you to have mistaken them as actual questions.

Is it I, or has the frequency increased in which people start hijacking seemingly innocent threads to engage in a heated debate, completely of the original topic. Getting useful information is becoming more and more ardous, when you have to skim posting after posting of mild condescension to outright rantig and raving. (It hasn't been that bad here. Yet.)

You can clarify facts, but you're not going to change another's opinion with a posting in this forum, as elaborate and sophisticated it may be.

Sorry to the OP for one more off topic posting and a short rant!

Back on track, then:

My PC group are looking for just that: A mobile base to park their superfluous freighters/fighters in. They made quite a fortune in gambling, and this is posing a good opportunity to funnel that wealth into something that can be easily anulled by means of a well placed SD, when necessary. I'm going to have them buy a decrepit Temple-class for what they have, so they can sink into it what they might earn in the future.

Wayfarer with a Retrofitted Hanger Bay?

I think you could keep to Silhouette 5 and be in fairly good shape here.

Definitely think starting here is a good idea. Pick up a bigger ship later on.
