will we see a First Order Star Destroyer in Wave 3

By jarmus mrawn, in Star Wars: Armada

Since we know from the Episode 7 poster that there will be more than one of the First Order Star Destroyers like the finalizer and that X Wing has already released a Episode 7 expansion.

Do you guys think we'll see a First Order Star Destroyer in Wave 3.

For Commanders they could use General Hux and Kylo Ren.

For specific ships they could use the Finalizer.

I personally hope that we do and it would be an awesome chance to have a really good model of the First Order Star Destroyer.

I hope not, there is still so much from the civil war to explore before we start shoehorning other eras into the game.

I also hope we can save that for later next year at least.

I think we all know this is true.

With how roughly shoehorned-in the X-Wing Ep VII upgrades were, it's absolutely certain that no matter the intentions of FFG as game creators, Disney is pushing hard to shove Ep VII into every possible facet of Star Wars' various licenses.

We will absolutely see the new First Order Star Destroyer (along with Finalizer title) very, VERY soon.

However... Rogue One is also coming, and if the trend holds true, we can expect some featured early GCW ships to accompany that one. (Not to mention the waves in between.)

I personally think its very possible. Although I'd rather hold off for a bit. There's only so many star destroyers, lets spread it out a bit.

I don't mind, a new ship is a new ship.

That said if it was nothing more than a re-skin of an existing ship at this point it would be disappointing.

My predictions are

First Order Star Destroyer

and Interdictor

for wave 3 Empire.

I hope not, there is still so much from the civil war to explore before we start shoehorning other eras into the game.

We have the Liberty, Interdictor, and SSD. Also a transport, the GR75. The Interdictor was only recently added back in to the new canon.

Despite constant statements to the contrary by fans, there just aren't many full sized capital ships left. Nearly all of them are Imperial Star Destroyer variants or Mon Calamari cruiser alienate designs. Most remaining major ship designs are from the Clone Wars Era. A few from the old Expanded Universe are even older, like the Katana Fleet dreadnoughts.

Now, this could change in the future with side projects like Rebels, Rogue One, the Han Solo movie and similar new canon adventures set immediately before and after the original trilogy. But the idea that there are a huge number of classic full sized capital ships to round out both fleets is just not true. The only major design I can think of is the Hapes Battle Dragon. And when we're reaching for Hapes Consortium designs, you know we're scraping up the lining of the bottom of the barrel.

Bring on TFA.

Age of Rebellion lists about 12 or so ships that would be reasonable to expect get used so there is a little room to wiggle there.

I also have to ask what happened to the Clone War Ships? Did they get scrapped and replaced in between the birth of the Empire and Yavin?

I'm guessing that's the route they'll take to excuse not using them. But that said, even though XWing has sworn off of the Clone Wars, maybe Armada wont? At least just because there's less options in the capital ship department.. I can dream~

are those the geraffe neck ones??

With Episode 7's core set being released just last month I wonder if FFG had something in the test barrel for a while for Armada. Then again I don't know... we know TIE/FOs and T-70s have existed from the earliest trailers. If there was a rebel capital ship to fly with an Imperial Finalizer, we would have seen it by now?

So if we don't see one soonish, we might see it by the type or around when Episode 8 rolls around. The Finalizer-type is the newest model of Imperial Star Destroyer... I expect they'll be the norm through the sequel trilogy.

There might be a chance we'll see clone-wars era ships since we know (at least according to Legends) they were used by the Alliance (CIS ships) and Empire (leftover republic ships). Many CIS holdouts decided to join the rebellion, and the Empire probably has leftover ships pushed to outer rim postings. Victory-Star Destroyers are supposed to be clone war relics after all.

While I expect they'll shove it into Armada before too long, I really, really hope it's still a ways into the future. Besdies the fact that I think it's looks terrible, having a single (or even a couple) of ships from 30 years down the line shoved into Galactic Civil War games would be annoying. I'd much rather see left over Clone Wars ships introduced than anything from TFA.

Please don't!!!

I think a problem with Ep VII is that they'll likely want to have a specific Core Set, as they have done for X-Wing. But I think it might be a hard sell to have the FO Star Destroyer as the main piece there, as it will likely be a large base ship, like the Imperial.

However, I wouldn't discount Ep VII to have some large scale space battles in which they cram in a couple of ships that could fit the bill, but I'm not surprised that it hasn't shown up in the trailers either.

The Rebels have the Empire using the Arquitens Light Cruiser and rebels using Pelta class frigates, so I'm gonna guess that they will be the next two small ships for the respective factions, possibly together with Gozanti and GR75 transports.

What the factions need now, though, are more medium based ships, I wouldn't be surprised if the Venator is going to be the Empire's addition, but the rebels don't have anything as clearly "rebel looking".

I'm not so sure they will do an EP7 core set. Caused a lot of waves within the X-Wing world and was a prime opportunity to tweak the rules and introduce a new damage deck. Armada needs none of that. I'm sure we'll see TFA ships and squadrons at some point but there are other ships they could use. Rebels has canonised some ships such as the Gozanti and Interdictor (and we've only just started season 2) so I'll be surprised if they don't introduce other fan favourites (A-Wings and B-Wings have shown up already too) as the show progresses and of course the Anthology films will show new ships that we see for a few seconds to sell new toys with. So long as FFG expand this like X-Wing and keep the new mechanics balanced and interesting; I think there's a huge wealth of EU and cannon material that's going to be feeding us new toys :)

My money is on yes, and that is the reason they haven't announced Wave 3 yet. It's all going to be TFA, and the have a NDA not to discuss it till after Episode 7 releases.

Isn't this kind of a second order concern when we don't even have Wave II in our hands yet?

...

...

I'll go now.

There a few different capital ship still in the small range the corrillena gunship. Lancer frigate. For squadrons skip ray blast boats, assault shuttles, z-95 (rebel cheap ties) they can add uglies. Hapan battle dragon. Dreadnaughts which whield old grand admiral thrawn prove they are still deadly. Think gram took two up against a ISD and made it out.

Mc80 with wings. Or the mc90

Buy mostly that fact that they have said anything about wave 3 leads me to suspect they are waiting to see the sales report on wave 2 before heading forward

You know, I never would've guessed there would've been so much negativity about Imperials getting another big imposing star destroyer, but here we are.

Only because the first imposing Star Destroyer feels like an unfulfilled promise or even a lie to some people...

You could promise anything right now, but without Wave 2 hitting stores, you wouldn't be believed...

Armada might not need rules tweaking and such, but it's not for the sake of the game they would make a new Core, it would be for the sake of getting new customers. Take advantage of the new stuff that is up on the screen in this moment. And releasing standalone TFA ships doesn't make much sense, as people have noted having the one new ship with a bunch of 30 year old relics just doesn't rhyme well. If they have a core pack they avoid that problem. Just like X-Wing it can be compatible, and you can mix-n-match as much as you want, but I'm betting that if they release TFA ships, it will come with a Core package.

I believe that is what so many people are anxious for a Wave 3 announcement. Will FFG continue to support the system?

Look at Imperial Assault. It was announced around the same time, and they have released up to wave 3 and announced up to wave 5. We're over here twiddling our thumbs waiting for our 2nd wave. It's not surprising that Armada players are feeling neglected.

I'm really hoping that by around Christmas they will say, "sorry guys, we know it's been a crazy year, but we haven't forgotten you. Here's wave 3 with a bunch of goodies we couldn't talk about before. You should have it within a few months. And oh yeah, we're going to go ahead announce wave 4 that should be out next summer. Thanks for being such great supporters."

I'm not so into a time paradoxon for Armada as soon as wave 3.

Best keep Armada Age of Rebellion.

That said in X-Wing we have 1 new ship for Empire and Rebels that are set 30 years into the future from all the other waves. T-70's and FO TIE's don't feel right next to Porkins (who died in the battle of Yavin) or Corran Horn (who never existed now the EU has been re-branded) but I played against a Poe & Wedge list last tourney and it was great fun :) and now we can have Latts Razi of Clone Wars era fame flying against Poe Dameron from a film set 50 years later too. Sometimes fluff and game balance don't always mix but still produce fun :)
