Developer Interview from Worlds

By Hawkstrike, in X-Wing

Maybe I'm off on the context, but did they say the JumpMaster's got one entire side of the dial in green?

Not sure it's all, but yes -- left side turns green, right side white.

They hinted that some of the ships that aren't often seen on the tables will get some stuff soon. They didn't name anything in particular but did refer to earlier in the video when they mentioned the Tie Bomber, Tie Defender and Scyk not being in many lists.

Really fascinating interview. Frank was typically vague about many things. The tractor beam mechanic was mentioned and Alex said it was going to be quite cool. Seems there's plenty to look forward to coming up. I do like the fact that they look carefully at what ships are missing from lists and that it gives them an idea of what needs fixing later on. The game appears to be in good hands.

Ace bomber CONFIRMED

Think we'll get a preview for it tomorrow? All signs point to yes.

Didn't they already spoil the "most expensive" card. The 12pts card that adds one to the jump masters primary?

Edit: if any FFG or TC staff see this I would like to say thank you for being up for these interviews. They are really enjoyable

God bless the designers. Can't wait to see the Punishing One's dial.

They did spoil the Punishing One title (12 points) already and we did learn an unspoiled tidbit on its dial. They must not follow every detail of every preview as they are released to the public. They're juggling knowledge of the current tournament meta, their own design work, the stuff that's at the printer and partially revealed - that's bound to lead to a few slips here and there.

It's like the Derek Zoolander of X-wing.

Jabba CONFIRMED.

I guess there would be a certain pottery to shipping a Jabba card with the toilet-seatpogostick.

That said, it's highly unlikely that there's a 13pt+ card in the wave.

I'm not sure why everyone is so excited to see the Jumpmaster's asymmetrical dial.

I mean, doesn't that make it really predictable?

"Well, he's stressed, and left is green, but right isn't...I wonder which way he's going to turn?"

Then he turns right and removes the stress with a wingman?

So you have to cover for it. That sounds like a downside. So, again, why are people excited?

Because I want know what this dial is like. I am extremely curious about the dial that will be unlike anything we have ever flown.

It is only predictable if you follow the stress= MUST green move logic. Which is terrible.

Simple: its new and different

This also means that it probably has a green 2 sloop...

Also, it's going to like Unhinged Astromech for the 3 speeds, if it has them.

Seems doubtful. It's probably one side is more difficult than the other side.

let's hope they don't get too crazy and do a green sloop because we're still rolling with a PWT apart from Dengar's ability, and if we trivialize manuevering that then it won't mean squat

Exactly. I don't play scum (yet), but flying against a ship with an asymmetrical dial would be a completely new experience. There are new things to take advantage of and be wary of.

Maybe I'm off on the context, but did they say the JumpMaster's got one entire side of the dial in green?

I think they might have been generalizing, since they said turning left was easier than turning right and the one maneuver revealed so far is a left white S-turn.

Doing whats unexpected can be a strategy in itself if i'm stressed and you know all my greens are on the left why not take the less efficient path and turn right sure you deny yourself the action but position wise your ship is going in the opposite way to mine and now your ship needs to k-turn and stress itself out to get the ship back in arc. You can bluff people even with a "predictable" dial.

You can also add an unhinged astromech to make all your 3 moves green.
