warzone40k mats for Armada?

By Thraug, in Star Wars: Armada

Does anyone have any experience with Armada mats from warzone40k.com? They have 5 different images to choose from for their 72" x 36" Armada mats. They come in vinyl and cloth. They have a note that they intentionally added 3cm of white space to the mats:

  • "3cm of additional white space on edges were added at the request of players. This space is to fix mat on table and to separate gaming zone from our world."

I don't know if the mats are 6cm wider and longer or if they just have 3cm of white around the 72x36 mat.

Those are really nice

They seem nice enough to consider but not with the 3 cm white edge...who on earth requested that.

Wow, those are really nice. I've been waiting for FFG to put out a 6 by 3 gaming mat for Armada, but I might be going to go there instead.

Those mats look amazing

Bumpy! Anyone play on one of these yet?

I've tried to play once on a 6' x 4' gaming mat. due to not having anything "better" at hand. ^_^

In the game played, It really didn't make much of a difference when first contact was established in turn two or three. as both sides relatively moved in the general direction of the enemy.

Obviously if one side attempts to avoid contact then it does matter, as it give more space to move your ships on, to keep distance.

One other Obvious effect, is there will be fewer cases of ships moving off the table, by accident, due to the extra width.

You could always increase the deployment zone depth to distance 4 or 5, so that the relative distance between the two opposing deployment zones is roughly the same.

This also gives more space for other deployment setups, than the narrow distance 3 strip has to offer.

So try it a couple of times, see if it makes a big or a small difference and if it effects the game positively or negatively.

Those mats look great. My question would be how easily does everything slide around? I play on a black painted bare wood surface right now and am still looking into the right mat to purchase. I don't want something that the ships will move by the slightest bump (like what happens now). I've heard that the extra wide yoga mats are good and am thinking of going that way, but these look great and if they don't cause too much slide then this might be a way to go.

those Mats do look nice and for a grate price...

I recommend the Yoga mats. Also, if you are extra wide, Yoga is a great way to stay healthy. 2 birds, 1 stone. Just don't play armada on the sweaty side.

They have 6x3 mats but all their mats have a 3cm white border. Was the 6x4 you played on from this warzone40k??

It was one they had in the LGS I go to play in, I was told by the shop owner that its was for 40K BFG or Epic, but I don't know for sure if it came from Warzone40K.

Sorry
