A LGS that quickly became a FLGS after I walked in hosted an X-wing tournament today. I carpooled with my X-wing friend and we rode about a 45 minute drive to the store. Unfortunately for us the game store was located on Western boulevard, which was shut down for the Veterans day parade. After some detour shenanigans we managed to locate the store, called Hobby Chest. We also got to see a bit of the parade as well.
The X-wing tournament was set up in a nice little area of 4 marked out spaces, with enough space for pilot cards, toekns, dials, etc. We played with official tournament rules, since the T.O was using a spring kit he found on Ebay.
My list:
3x Blue Squadron pilot
Nera Dantels, Deadeye, flechette torps, munitions failsafe, extra munitions, Fire control system
Total: 100 points
the Bee's! Oh no not the Bee's... XD
Anyway:
Round 1:
Our first place winner in the tournament, and my first opponent, ran an imperial firespray (yeah, it happens true believers!), Tie advanced, Mauler and Backstabber. I made the mistake of focusing the TIE's first.... after they blew up I quickly fell into the trap of chasing a firespray. I managed to get the firespray to two hull and the Advanced to two hull before my last B-wing bit the dust. I had a couple more collisions with myself than I would have liked, and I flew nera right into The kill box between all 4 of my opponents ships. It was one of the toughest games I have played so far.
Round 2:
Up against another imperial list, this time Deathrain/Chinareau. I made the mistake of focusing deathrain first. I killed him within the first 3 turns, and then ran into all of his mines, suffering about 5 damage total spread among 3 ships. It was then a slowly painful game of me trying to line up my ships while Chinareau ran circles around me. He finished me off leaving me 0/2. If I had focused Chinareau first I might have won that match up. Oh well! ![]()
Round 3:
Against rebels, this is the game where I triumphed. Went against a Gold squadron pilot, Jake, Biggs, and outer rim smuggler. Destroyed the gold squadron pilot early, then biggs, the YT-1300, and then a nosebleed occurred. I ended up running two doors down to a resturaunt called jeese's, got my nosebleed taken care of/cleaned up, ordered food, and went back to finish off jake (since Jeese's delivers I didn't have to stay to wait around for my food). Thankfully I didn't get blood on anything except my shirt (the nightmare if I had gotten it on mine or another players ships, table, area. gotta love those seasonal allergies!
)
Round 4:
I went up against the illustrious Bro bots. Mangler cannon, autoblasters, Hull upgrade, stealth device, etc. I managed to kill the one with the hull upgrade at the cost of nera, leaving a slightly damaged Ig-2000 and 3 various shielded B's. We went to time and I had 2 B-wings left and he had 1 hull left. We were about to activate dials so the T.O let us(me and my opponent) choose to either quit or play the last round. We went for it and I ended up losing a B-wing and also the match as well.
Overall I had a fun time and everyone pretty much had a very good fly casual attitude about them. The firespray/Tie Advanced/2 ties coming in first was quite unexpected, but really cool to see. Imperial Firesprays aren't dead quite yet. (He did have heavy laser cannon so that did help enormously).
I can't wait to play in there next tournament, and I'm looking at maybe getting a Tourney kit for my FLGS and having those guys play there.
