Question regarding Paul's stressbot Y-wing

By Sixmilliote, in X-Wing Rules Questions

The Y-wing is equipped with TLT, R3 A2, and title card. In his interview after worlds, he mentions the double stress it causes thanks to the stressbot.

Could this build in fact cause 3 stress? Once for having shot its primary weapon, again for the first TLT shot and again for the second TLT shot?

Thanks

I believe it only causes two as the stress is delivered when you declare the target of your attack. With the TLT, you only declare your target for the first shot (as the second must be made at the same target).

I don't think I'd be that keen on loading that much stress on a Y-wing. Their dial doesn't have a lot of green on it.

Just to be 100% sure regarding the title, you can target 1 unit with your primary and then a second target with your secondary weapon, right?

Yeah, the Y becomes a stress bin without Tycho's ability. It needs a trailer to haul all the tokens around.

I got my Y looking like Paul's at the last event I went to. Nicknamed him Tycho :P

And yeah, Stressbot grants 2 stress as you only declare the target once with TLT.

Yes, you can change targets between the primary shot and the turret shot if you like (giving each enemy 1 stress).

The point of the build is that the Y-wing becomes covered in a pile of stress that you don't care about. Greens don't matter since you're not bothering to get rid of stress anyway. Meanwhile, your opponent has a ship with a corresponding pile of stress, but it's a ship that actually needs actions to function, like Vader or Soontir.

Ok. I need to have this clarified: half my Playgroup says tlt gives you two stress with tac. I read on these board that you only get one even though the gun attacks twice because it only chooses target once? Whats the truth?

Let's get the FAQ text:

Twin Laser Turret
Twin Laser Turret is treated as two separate attacks against the same target. During the second attack, the “Declare Defender and Weapon” step is skipped.
R3-A2
When you declare the target of your attack, if the defender is inside your firing arc, you may receive 1 stress token to cause the defender to receive 1 stress token.
Tactician
After you perform an attack against a ship inside your firing arc at Range 2, that ship receives 1 stress token.
BTL-A4
You cannot attack ships outside your firing arc. After you perform a primary weapon attack, you may immediately perform an attack with a secondary weapon.
As posted above, TLT & R3-A2 nets you 1 stress, because you only declare a target once. Tactician triggers after each separate attack.
R3-A2, with BTL and TLT gives you three attacks, where you twice declare targets, allowing you to trigger R3-A2 twice.

Haha thats really confusing. Let me try to sum up. A tlt with tac shoots at me at r2 inside arc. I only recieve 1 stress even though the tlt rolls three dice twice because tac only triggers as you chose target which is only once with tlt, right? If the ship also has a stressbot on board (kwing) I receive 2 stress. One from bot and one from tac. If i get shot by a btl y with stress bot i get 2 as the bot Can trigger off of Both shots, right? So: tac Never gives two stress with just a tlt?

No, Tactician isn't dependent on choosing targets. Tactician resolves after each single attack. TLT performs two attacks, each attack triggering Tactician.

If there is a hypothetical modification allowing a crewmember on the Y-Wing you could get:

Y-Wing

R3-A2

Tactician

Twin Laser Turrets

BTL-A4

Attacking at range two.

Declare attack

Take stress from R3-A2 to give a stress to target

Attack with primary

Tactician triggers, giving a stress

BTL-A4 triggers, allowing you to start using the TLT

You declare a target for the TLT

R3-A2 triggers, giving you a stress to give the defender his third stress

Tactician triggers after the first attack, fourth stress

Second attack, no declaration of target

Second attack resolves, Tactician triggers for the fifth stress.

And that is why we won't get a crewmember for the Y-Wing anytime soon.

If you haven't played with this build yet, give it a try. Arnoldrew is spot-on: you just don't care that much about all the stress on the Y-Wing because whatever damage it can deal is often really just gravy.

The point here is that all it has to do is declare an attack with it's primary and secondary weapons and the target gets two stress. Makes it much easier for your other ships to push damage through so you're not that worried that your stressed out Y-Wing can't modify its dice. And actually, once your target is a stress ball and can't get any defensive tokens, you're more likely to push damage through with the Y-Wing anyway.
