HALO 5

By Black Knight Leader, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I have been playing it. Its really really good, most bad reviews I have been seeing for it, including Angery Joe, are pretty missleading. The game plays like Star Wars Republic Commando, in Warzone you can think of the game as HALO Battlefront.

The only compliants I have is that the very start of the game feels rushed, some of the game mechanics for guns, mostly Knight weapons, have been changed.

Everything else is amazing, the story, the game modes online, all the diffrent subtype of weapons you can get in the game as well as vehicles. It also happens to be the hardest HALO to date. People playing the game and complain that its easy are playing it on Easy or Normal mode not Heroic, Legendary, or Mythic.

Customization is above neutral for me, just about all the amour pieces are amazing, you get the parts randomly but at the same time if you compare it too other HALOs know you don't have to do crazy things to get armour, their some Commando armours all always wanted but couldn't get just because landgrab missions were not that populated and now that type of game is mixed in with other objective type games. I could still get it but by the time I do HALO 6 will be coming out.

JFYI the Spartan LASER is my favorite weapon and the most powerful vesion of it in this game is called "Selenes LANCE" or "Lance of Selene" which can mean Luna's Lance or Lance of Luna =p

How is the single player aspects of it?

Hardest to date? Nah. Legendary was cake

Hardest to date? Nah. Legendary was cake

What did you do differently that made it so easy?

How is the single player aspects of it?

The first level had a weird feel to it because your just thrown into the action, also the final boss is ether so difficult that its not fun, or you can do two things, both are very cheep, and easily breeze through the final boss fight. One way is to sacrifice your team and use them as bait, which is out of character for the character your playing. Or you can rush to the exit during the monologue and leave the fight and beat the level. The last one isn't as easy as it sounds but if you watch a demonstration video on how to do it you can.

If you do it the way I did, which was in keeping in character with the character I was playing as, it took me 2-3 hours to beat the final boss.

Spoiler

The final boss is three bosses at the same time, all their attacks are instant death. When you finally kill two of them the third one summons 4-6 giant sentinel beam turrets spawn in the boss spawn zone. Their firing views cover most the map. I found if you try and take them out the boss will just one hit kill you eventually. You could use your heavy weapons on the turrets but you should save them for the boss.

End of spoiler

Unlike in the other HALO games, I found that the vehicle levels were not a breather level, even in tanks, which is a nice twist. The enemies mostly use Human vehicles, human vehicles can kill you to death fast. Now in levels where you fight the Cov those are easy. I like the difficulty spike because now Hunters and Knights feel like bosses in their own right. Knights were always uber, don't get me wrong, but now I feel like you are fighting a tank, unless you got really heavy weapons, or legendary weapons. Oh and the old trick with dealing with Jackals doesn't work anymore, shot to the gun hand and then the head. These Jackals keep their hand steady and they don't recoil.

Just be warned, I fought a Knight, I used the Scatter Shot to its face... 10-20 shots did nothing... So far the only good weapons I used that could kill it via head shots are Light Rifles, they got a boost in this game, Binary Rifles, I feel like the Anti-Material Rifle is not that great for head shots against Knights, although it is good against the other weak spots it has. All the marksman weapons are great for hitting their alt weakpoints. Kill any watchers you see because they will repair all the Armour you hack off the Knights.

As far as the story goes it was really good, it has a very dark ending... But the only problem I have is that theirs no humor in the main dialog, you'll find humor in the dialog between npcs not important to the story.

I'm not sure what I really did "differently" from anyone else, mainly because I didn't watch anyone else play...Just be patient, line up your headshots, figure out the most efficient way to dispatch enemies. BR, DMR, Lightrifle & Carbine always. Pistol if necessary. Avoid automatic weapons other than the SAW for most encounters. If you can't carry the extra power weapons laying around, tell your team to pick them up.

I just don't feel like many parts were very difficult. The end, with the fight with those guys (those of you who've done it will understand) was a pain, and I died a handful of times, but there's a plethora of power weapons laying around to make it easier.

I found Halo 4 much harder thus far. Having AI teammates makes the game way easier through most of it - though the boss battle I found to be a PITA. Currently doing a Heroic + get all intel run and not finding heroic hard either.

The weapon re balancing is weird, not used to it yet.

Warzone is fun but not dynamic or random enough - also those maps aren't that huge, forgeworld in Reach was way bigger.

Warzone is a good mode, but to me an improved firefight or spartan ops would be better. I'd rather customize my own spartan and do stuff co-op than silly wargames over the same three maps, thanks.

Halo 5 is this generations Halo 2. Best multiplayer, campaign too short, spend most of it not as the chief, leaves you on a cliffhanger.

The maps are visually impressive, even fun - though it doesn't feel like there are enough vehicle or flying sections. The grunts are hilarious but the game needs something more.

I loved that the two biggest points of contention from the marketing (Jul M'dama and Locke/Chief) were resolved in 5 minute cutscenes. M'dama at least should have been a boss battle.

I dislike how the vehicles look and feel now, but acknowledge they move smoother.

Prometheans ... they tried to improve fighting them, still hate doing so.

All in all not my favourite Halo game, with 3/ODST being my preferred (in any order) followed by reach, 1, 5, 2 and 4 in that order.

This said: I love the team mechanic, I'm glad they got rid of armour abilities, the AI was fun.

Warzones are definitely nice, but I wish there was a smaller version of it. I want more opportunities to use REQs.

AND WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO MY MONGOOSE? This thing handles like a lopsided brick now. Ugh.

They put guns on some of them...

Well I mean did you use Blue team or the other team as fodder? I have seen people do it, and that does make the game easier, I just didn't do that because it wouldn't fit the character of the people I played as.

Warzone is like HALO Battlefront, which is good. Now if they would just let us use the Rhino Super Heavy Plasma Tank, or the Spartan LASER Sparrow Hawk, or the Cov Vampire... They should make a Halo flight sim as well.
