Esege and deadeye

By killerbeardhawk, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Esege (kwing):

When another friendly ship at Range 1-2 is attacking, it may treat your focus tokens as its own.

Deadeye (ept):

You may treat the "ATTACK (TARGET LOCK):" header as '"ATTACK (FOCUS):".

When an attack instructs you to spend a target lock, you may spend a focus token instead.

Proton rockets (missile):

ATTACK (FOCUS): Discard this card to perform this attack.

You may roll additional attack dice equal to your agility value, to a maximum of 3 additional dice.

These are the cards I'm looking at. I assume eseges ability works with proton rockets as you can treat eseges focus as your own, which you would then have a focus to shoot the proton rockets. With this assumption, eseges ability works with deadeye, as you only need a focus which esege provides. I've been looking at esege and deadeye blount with ion missile. As long as blount can use eseges focus and has a target at range 2-3 he can hit them with his ion missile correct?

Looks legit to me

One of the most fun things to run with Esege?

Garven Dreis, with R2D6, Deadeye, and Advanced Proton Torpedoes.

Garven spends Esege's focus token to fire the Adv. Proton Torpedoes.

Garven gives the token back to Esege, rather than spending it.

Garven spends a Target Lock to modify the dice of the Adv. Proton Torpedoes if he rolled more than 3 blanks.

Garven uses the Adv Proton Torpedo mechanic to change up to 3 blanks into Eyes.

Garven spends Esege's focus token to modify the dice of the Adv. Proton Torpedoes.

Garven gives the token back to Esege, rather than spending it.

Garven has incredibly low odds of rolling as low as 4 damage, and basically removes an enemy ship from the table.

Esege still has his focus token!

Yea I've been looking at deadeye and esege for epic. Esege garven and cr90 with two singles. Cr90 Can focus on all 3 shots after garven gives esege his focus. Plus cr90 have weapons engineer and sensor team to really get some modifiers on those long range shots. Just need to full in team with other ships than can advantage of esege focus, like deadeye blount. Garven does enough just by giving his focus to esege (or biggs who would use for defense) I don't really want to put 8 more points on him. Thinking maybe deadeye nera? Any other good combos for esege?

I donä't think the CR-90 can use Eseges focus. Even if it can use it, it has no effect.

Huge shp rules P 4:

"Focus, evade, and stress tokens do not affect huge ships"

Edited by Smuggler

It can, according to an official ruling. It would be nice if they rephrased that rule to "Huge ships cannot gain or be assigned focus, evade, or stress tokens," since that's what they seem to have meant.

Ah, no wounder I feelt a bit of déjà vu as I wrote that responce, I basicly said the exact same thing in that thread :D

Deadeye does work. I've used Esege with Recon Spec, alongside Nera Dantels with 'Deadeye' to great effect. Get Nera to TL her target, then use on of Esege's focuses to fire her ordnance. Use her own TL if needed to reroll misses, and (if still needed), draw on Esege's second 'Focus' to change any remaining dice. Combined with extra munitions, this gave me two 4-hit torp spreads in a game, and the win.

The current rules say the token does not affect the huge ship. The way I see it the ship's attack does not affect itself, it does affect the target :D

Everybody, in six months when somebody comes here and tells us about how his buddy wouldn't let him spend focus tokens to modify attack dice when attacking a Huge ship, citing "an article on this site"? This is why.
