And it was even better that it was a GenCon special that went down to it, too...
Yeah, good point!
42 out of 50, not bad. Though 4 of his points were lost in the game prior. That was the Final, Extropia...
That Rebel Player is the Armada Worlds Champion, at a total of 42 Points... Closest Competition, even if they score 10-0s in their matches, put them at 40.
Yep, he should have keep plinking with the A-Wings.

"Went down", is putting it politely.

I am an Australian living in Canada. I'm trying to be more polite given that circumstance ![]()
Awesome thread, thanks for the commentary all!
Go A Wings! 0.75 damage and speed 5. All you need.
didnt see last one, I take it the 8 A-wing won?
Congrats! With 2 AFs, one Corvette and some fighters my prediction wasnt too bad, but I was far away from imagining that naked ships and more fighters would win it.
I'm very happy to see fighters win as well. I called the "horde" part, but got the letter wrong. ![]()

I misstyped my best.
Watch the match. It's really not about A-Wangs per se and much more about deployment. The gencon special got turned away from by broadsiding AFs that also happened to have 88 points of squadrons. At no point in the Gabe was the gencon special able to concentrate any amount of meaningful fire on a single target while the AFs with squadrons always did.
Hats off to both competitors but I imagine both would say the lists had less to do with the outcome than the play decisions; and that's great really.
I think Francisco did not test much against massed squadrons. It could be a cause to the loss. . .

I'm saying if you deploy on the side of the table and come hard and fast in a line versus a list that toilets well you're going to get turned on just like what happened. Again hats off to both players but you can't straight-line into conga line capable lists.
One vsd fights two assault frigates and eight A-Wangs because he got turned on.
I said it before and I will say it again. This game was lost in deployment. The VGGG list needed to be able to head off the assault frigates and destroy them. Even then, the CR-90 was there to essentially be points that VGGG would never score because they can't catch it. Ideally VGGG would kill both frigates and then run away hoping to survive the A-Wing swarm until time is called.

And First Player - and First Deployment - And Squadron Deployment all going to the Rebels here... Its almost impossible for it to set up to do it...
Drasnighta makes a truly excellent point. I haven't watched the match, but given the lists involved, the rebel player could wait to deploy his guppies until the entire imperial list is deployed. I assume that's what he did? Another oft overlooked benefit of squadrons.

That's exactly what he did. He placed his cr90 first, closest to one of the objectives. Then he deployed all of his squadrons first. All the GSD's and VSD were all deployed next to each other. Then the guppies were placed 90 degrees.
Edited by ChurryThe VGGG were placed on the Imp left flank AFTER the CR90 was placed with the clear intent to snag the 3rd ob token that the Imp had placed, then make a hard break to the Imps right flank and grab the 2 tokens the Rebel had placed.
The Imp should have setup GVG in the center. The last G could have been on the left for token grabbing, or in the center left. Catch and kill the CR90 and break towards the AFKs. Maybe grab a token or 2 if convenient.
Can we try and compile the top 8 lists? Also anyone know what total attendance was?
Final Results - Top 8:
1st - Jonathan Reinig
2nd - Francois Fressin
3rd - Dustin Foran
4th - Francisco Berna Menendez
5th - Pat Doyle
6th - Royal Tippetts
7th - Daniel Hars
8th - Gerry Russell
after viewing this game, and in hindsight, and without being an Imperial player, this Victory wasnt well moved. Taking the brunt with no support whatsoever, and right through an obstacle also. Granted, the Vic is difficult to fly. Also granted, the Imp needed to do something because he'd lose the objective anyway. What was the score before the game, was Francisco in front overall, and by how many VPs?
I fly the same list, just with Jainas light and upgraded AFs, less fighters. Makes me wonder whats better now.
Francisco had 36, his opponent 32 and the next closest had 30. All Francisco needed was 5 points for a can't lose. 3 would have been a probable win.
