Am I the only one to find the speciel dice ugly?

By Holmelund, in X-Wing

The colour for the new special dice from Worlds is just so wrong for the game imo. Anyone else feels that way.

pics?

They're a pain and a half to make out on the dice cam, so no, you're not the only one.

The Orange and grey ones?

Yes, ugly as hell. I wouldn't want them except to sell for an exorbitant amount online.

Agreed. Gotta be some variety of green and red please. Or some other star warsy colors. These looked like the $0.50 dice in a bin at the FLGS.

Orange and Grey are pretty star-warsy, Rebel Orange flight suits and Imperial Grey everything!

they are ugly as hell. not in the least jealous.

those mats though...

I know that they don't want to give monetary prizes to keep the competition friendly...

But those "carved from fossilized puke" dice, those plain mats, and a plaque being everything FFG has to offer to the world champion of their most successful game...

They could at least gift them a set of FFG games like the new Rebellion or some Armada or Imperial Assault boxes. It would at least look better.

Gold dice are pretty OG Star Wars. But they should have been polished metal. Not iridescent plastic

yeaaaa I'm so glad I wasn't there to win any of those ugly dice :)

p.s. next year that have fluffy dice as a prize :)

The color really didn't work for the camera, so from that point of view i hope they never use them again. The greyish/blue one seemed ok on the eye, the orange ones wouldn't be my thing. In general I think FFG can do a lot to be less amateuristic in organizing something like the worlds. Better camera's, better overview of the current damage and stats ugh, so many things went wrong there, but using indistinguishable dice is definitely up there. And yes, the prices could definitely also be upgraded. At least have a decent trophy ffs.

The trophy is about at the same level than the one my granpa got from winning the dominoes league in his elderly daycare home. (And still he would have preferred the consolation prize for the second, consisting on a 2 kilos ham).

Last year was the first stream they did. There are not enough (if already an amazing number who made the stream a great experience) people interested in this to justify putting a lot of money into it. Twitch just isn't made for camera images, too.

Gold dice for attack.

Silver for defense.

Did not show up well on the camera but on the table they would be fine.

If you don't want them I'll take them! :P

Different coloured dice with same function is a really really bad idea. These yellow/black and grey/white were hard to read, even casters couldn't tell sometimes. I'm more of a casual player and when I saw the yellow dice in final game for a moment I thought FFG had introduced new dice to the game. You know how some of their other games have more than 2 colours and people on forums have said that would be a good improvement for X-Wing too. Nathan even switched dice mid-game for some reason. Perhaps he was asked to by FFG so they can promote their ugly dice.

The mats were on sale there, and will be on sale to all of us at some point.

He switched because the others were rolling terrible evades for him lol Commentators said so.

Yea, as already stated they were gold and silver dice - not orange and blue.

I don't think the camera and glare did the dice any favours, but I'm sure they look great in person.

FFG has been on point with most of their game materials - I'd be surprised if they flopped on Worlds dice.

I, for one, thought the dice were awesome. I had no issues with them. They weren't any harder to read on the camera than the normal dice for me.

Maybe. But you can't act like FFG was pulling a fast one this year. World Championship prizes were announced before registration, so everyone knew what they were competing for. If the prizes didn't look enticing enough to compete for, then they don't need to participate. Also, you forgot about the prize of designing a card for the game. That's pretty unique.

Yes, the custom card prize is really nice.

It's not like you compete at these things for the prize, anyway. Just for the bragging rights.

I don't think anyone would withdraw just because they announced that the prizes would be a hug and a pat on the back.

But still...

They're a pain and a half to make out on the dice cam, so no, you're not the only one.

Also compounded by the fact that the dude on the twitch feed was asleep half the time. Many times they would have rolled 3 or 4 times before the dice cam came up.

Well jesus christ guys don't post pictures or anything
