Paul Heaver needs to be a pilot in this game

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

I don't think it's a good idea, to start assigning winners pilot crew cards (for tournament use anyway, casual play have at it as always :)).

Or at least, if they were going to, make it something Star wars related. Instead just having Paul Heaver the champion, make Paul Heaver, the Orange squadron leader or something. add some lore to it. Don't just put him in the game, write him into the star wars universe in some way. I think that would be appropriate.

Although I really want Paul to create an Admiral Ackbar card so for us rebel players can have some emperor equivalent this go around. (as in having a high ranked leader, Ackbar can't use the force as far as we know, so his ability wouldn't be as powerful as the emperor's...)

sheesh.. people..

I read a lot of satire / tounge in cheek in most posts and that's fine! ;)

but to the (few!) too serious ones: relax.. it's still just a game. in parts this reads like on a GW-forum, both in attitude and 'level of maturity'.. and that should tell you something.

let's be civil to each other. peace out, man..*

*back to blowing stuff up .. in space

Some people are WAY TO SERIOUS. My 1st wife approached games like she did her advance degrees. There's only first, nothing else matters. We had some very interesting games of scrabble. Followed by several hours of me and the dog talking to each other. Me on the other hand? I was told once if I was anymore laid back I would be horizontal. Not entirely accurate but close enough.

Maybe we should add TIC (tongue in cheek) after our posts to designate comments that were meant to be humorous, ironic or just inane so nobody will have their blood pressure skyrocket and stroke out. Or break out the poison pen.

to be frank (and that's why I use no names at that point), some people just need to get some manners / to grow up.

the folks here are clearly making a little fun (teasing) of Paul, in a good and sporty manner. the rude tones in between are just unfitting for this overall very nice community.

-we- don't have to set a "tongue-in-cheek marker" etc - it's pretty clear to see for everybody who is just willing to see.

these very few who are just out for some trolling should just go somewhere else. a little common sense and decency go a long way - both here and in the real world.

concerning the 1st wife and playing attitude: my gaming-group (boardgames mainly, xwing is not for them^^) is in a similar but strangely also perfect place:

whatever we play, it's very cutthroat-style. nobody grants the next one the tiniest advantage and we all go out for the win.

that is: on the board. arms and legs will fly, blood will be spilled, whatever. directly -behind- the board are a few guys and gals having a blast, because they are having a tense game. with good music, good food and good conversations in between.

you just have to realise that it's -just a game- and yeah, you're trying your hardest to win it. but you're playing that game to have a good time with friends. it is very easy to combine, IMO. people just have to look at the bigger picture. ;)

that card already exists, more or less:

Once per turn when running over bombs/mines, roll 1 fewer dice.

And Heaver is up for his second World Championship:

Forget about making him a card, make him a consultant/designer.

Yeah, I just saw that. Be thankful that he doesn't play other FFG games.

Just saying - he should get his own pilot card.

Probably an X-Wing pilot, but obviously it should be his choice.

And pilot ability easily related to mitigating the random-ness of his dice. Maybe a once per round he can pull a palpatine on his own ship - change any one die roll if his ship is involved?

And no 2 champs for Paul.

Good for him. Lame list though; it's the X-wing equivalent of RAC-Fel or Fat Han. I'd have hoped for something a bit more original.

Edit: His opponent was also 16th in the X-Wing Worlds, so clearly both very talented players in a variety of games.

I'm, torn. would be great if paul didn't get every title out there and some others would really like to have these, too.. then again - he plays imperials, so it is my joy and duty to cheer for him, too. may the best imperial win. force-chokes for everybody! ;-)

It's interesting that Pheaver has won 3 X-Wing world championships as Rebels, but won his Imperial Assault championship as Imperials- and is playing for a world title in Armada also as an Imperial. I wonder if it's a play style thing?

*looks like Paul took 6th at IA, and Martin Hoffman took 1st. I'm not sure why I thought Paul took 1st a couple months ago. Maybe I was thinking of nationals?

More importantly, how does he have time to play all 3 games?!?! I heard he's a software programmer or something? I have a friend who does that and he has very little free time.

I think he should be a PS 10. He's better than Vader. ;-)

Lt Kettch is the only possible PS10 character.

erm.. nope?! @armada

where did you get that..? armada was already over by friday(?), and the world champ is.. *have to look him up but not paul*

VERY interesting armada games btw, all who a curious/play should watch these, while they are still on twitch..!

All programmers I know work the regular 36 hours a week? Why would programming require a longer work week?

This is why I don't like Imperial Assault in a competitive environment. The meta is totally screwed up, forcing people to buy multiple core sets just to stand a chance. It has so many build possibilities that would be FUN to play, but you can't win with a FUN build. It's silly really. I just want to play it for fun, but unless you are at a tournament, almost nobody plays it around here. Shame. I do love the game, just wish people would play it for fun.

It has become pretty apparent to me that skirmish was tacked on, in order to get around Hasbro's license. That's why I have no interest in skirmish.

But if that's true, how do you explain the Rebellion board game? I mean I agree Skirmish seemed sorta tacked on to make it different than a pure board game. But if there was really a license issue then how does Rebellion work?

I have been wondering the same thing. Either hasbro lost the exclusivity...or it wasn't as all inclusive as we thought.

Can we get at least a reason the dude doesn't get to design a pilot card? He's proven himself the very best at X-wing for nearly half a decade.

Sure..it sends the message that tourney players are more important and deserve to be the center of the game. This may come as a shock to the boards but the vast majority of those who play xwing don't give two craps about who "the top player" is. This game isn't centered around the tourney scene...something that this boars needs to be constantly reminded of. He already gets a trophy and the ability to design a card (which is something novel i'll give FFG that.) It would make him appear like an arrogant ****** (especially if he got to.create himself) and send the message that he is somehow more important than any other player who plays this game and that those who play in tournies are superior to those who don't. Just cause he is good doesn't give him the right to just insert himself into the game we all play.

This is a game about fantasy in a galaxy far far away...paul heaver (peace and blessings be upon him) exists hrr on a planet very close by. I don't need him in my games...he can stick to the tourney tables where he belongs...he shouldn't be immortalized and diefied in game. No player should be.

A move like this would really turn me off...and alot of others I would wager if they found out. You tourney people really really need to get over yourselves.

Uhhh what? Let me help you with that.

I take casual play too seriously. I really need to get over myself.

Fixed it. You are welcome

Correct. Read all of it I needed to. It seemed ridiculous so I fixed it for you. I'd be happy to do it for you anytime. :)

I wouldn't object to a card being named after someone for good reason (and winning Worlds three times would seem to qualify as a good reason to me), but agree it should be 'Star Wars-ified' - how about P-HVR3 the droid?

Well at least you admit to being uninformed. You really should go hit page 3 or so though...I fixed it myself..and far more eloquently and humbly than you. I don't need anyone "fixing" my posts and speaking for me. If you actually read the whole thread you would have realized that your pointless and smug little "fix" was unnecessary. But hey...at least now I l know who actually gets all the info before they comment and who posts because "the read all they had to." It's a seven page thread...reading up to only page one or two and posting a smug little "fix" makes you look like a fool.

Have all the info...you'll find you will make a better argument that way.
