Paul Heaver needs to be a pilot in this game

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

I think he's half right about tournament players being superior. The problem is you have a ton of good players that simply cannot afford the trip to Nationals or Worlds, so you are only really comparing a certain demographic. Now sure, out of those people, the top 16 from worlds for example, are extremely good - and are VERY likely to be some of the best players. I'm sure if a local gaming group had a small tournament and invited any of the top 16 from worlds, you'd see the top 16 person doing extremely well... and they MIGHT win your local tournament - but it's not 100% certain.

So that's why I say "Half Right". But it's the best they (FFG) can do when picking someone to design a card. They can only really compare those who come to their tournaments and can only really award someone in a tournament like this - to have that kind of honor to design a card.

EDIT - why is my font defaulting to such a small font? bizarre.

I have no qualms about a Pheaver card, as long as the name is disguised to make it star wars sounding. After the world's final this year I would suggest.

Z-95 "Hevul Aper"

PS 7-9

If targeting a PS 8 or more pilot convert one evade rolled into a blank. If this attack hits defender gains 1 stress.

Edit: Rebel Z-95 Ofc.

Also in other games I have met SOME tourney players that act all elite because they play in tornis... they usually come across as D***s some taking advantage of new players swapping good draelws for rare trash. I have also defeated them, usually because of netlisting not knowing how to handle something left field. I have also met some wonderful torni players. I don't play competitively most of the time, but don't put me down because I don't wish to be a regular in that crowd.

Can't believe it took this long for someone to post this:

He already is

tychocelchu_altart_web.jpg

He won 3 times in a row... he deserves to be one of those pilots that you barely see for 2 seconds that says something like "Roger, gold leader" in Episode 8 ;)

EDIT: and THEN they make a pilot card out of him :P

That would be pretty cool if they were able to get him a cameo for episode 8.

Well he gets to make one so he can make his own.

Great... I wonder what overpowered nonsense he will come up this time? It will have to be quite something to out-bollocks Dash.

He designed Stay on Target, a card that came with Dash (and is certainly not what anyone would call overpowered), not Dash himself.

Furthermore, he designed Dash CREW, not pilot.

He didn't even design the Dash crew card, that was the previous winner.

So far, the only card we've seen from Heaver is Stay on Target. Hardly OP nonsense :P

We'll see what his Wave 8 card is from his last win. Someone on here said that it MAY be the Boba Fett crew card, but time will tell.

Paul Heaver

His choice of ship, but probably a Rebel one

PS9, Elite Talent upgrade

At the beginning of the Combat Phase, you may assign yourself one Stress token to allow every other friendly ship to perform one free action.

"mouse droid, crew, imperial only"

"all hits and crits on you are cancelled this round. then, discard this card"

-it's just SO cute.

Can we get at least a reason the dude doesn't get to design a pilot card? He's proven himself the very best at X-wing for nearly half a decade.

Sure..it sends the message that tourney players are more important and deserve to be the center of the game. This may come as a shock to the boards but the vast majority of those who play xwing don't give two craps about who "the top player" is. This game isn't centered around the tourney scene...something that this boars needs to be constantly reminded of. He already gets a trophy and the ability to design a card (which is something novel i'll give FFG that.) It would make him appear like an arrogant ****** (especially if he got to.create himself) and send the message that he is somehow more important than any other player who plays this game and that those who play in tournies are superior to those who don't. Just cause he is good doesn't give him the right to just insert himself into the game we all play.

This is a game about fantasy in a galaxy far far away...paul heaver (peace and blessings be upon him) exists hrr on a planet very close by. I don't need him in my games...he can stick to the tourney tables where he belongs...he shouldn't be immortalized and diefied in game. No player should be.

A move like this would really turn me off...and alot of others I would wager if they found out. You tourney people really really need to get over yourselves.

He's not better than everyone else. He's better than everyone he's flown against.

OMG PEOPLE! Look congrats to Paul it took skill to do what he did.

But you people need to stop immortalizing him. He is just a man who won a tournament in a game.

Yeah, but he did it 3x.

I think he should be a PS 10. He's better than Vader. ;-)

Pheaver:

crew card 5 points

Once per game when a friendly Z-95 is attacking a unique pilot you may force them to roll 0 defense dice.

I think he should be a PS 10. He's better than Vader. ;-)

Lt Kettch is the only possible PS10 character.

H3-473R crew: after another ship uses a card ability to assign you stress roll one red die. That ship suffers one damage on a hit or crit result.

We'll see what his Wave 8 card is from his last win. Someone on here said that it MAY be the Boba Fett crew card, but time will tell.

What if the tractor beam is his card...

Z-95 Pol Pheaver PS8

After a ship is attacked by Pol Pheaver, and does not have Pol Pheaver in his arc, that ship takes a stress token.

OMG PEOPLE! Look congrats to Paul it took skill to do what he did.

But you people need to stop immortalizing him. He is just a man who won a tournament in a game.

Yeah, but he did it 3x.

So? He won a tournament of pushing little ships around. That`s all. He didn`t cure cancer.

He's not a research doctor either.

To be fair, when he does cure cancer, I really hope he gets more of a prize than a pilot card. Maybe GW can make him into a Space Marine Captain... yeah, that'd fit more.

sheesh.. people..

I read a lot of satire / tounge in cheek in most posts and that's fine! ;)

but to the (few!) too serious ones: relax.. it's still just a game. in parts this reads like on a GW-forum, both in attitude and 'level of maturity'.. and that should tell you something.

let's be civil to each other. peace out, man..*

Some people are WAY TO SERIOUS. My 1st wife approached games like she did her advance degrees. There's only first, nothing else matters. We had some very interesting games of scrabble. Followed by several hours of me and the dog talking to each other. Me on the other hand? I was told once if I was anymore laid back I would be horizontal. Not entirely accurate but close enough.

Maybe we should add TIC (tongue in cheek) after our posts to designate comments that were meant to be humorous, ironic or just inane so nobody will have their blood pressure skyrocket and stroke out. Or break out the poison pen.

Well, seeing as how Paul Heaver is in the top 16 over at Imperial Assault, maybe they can turn him into a miniature for that game. 8-).
