Paul Heaver needs to be a pilot in this game

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

Can we get at least a reason the dude doesn't get to design a pilot card? He's proven himself the very best at X-wing for nearly half a decade.

Sure..it sends the message that tourney players are more important and deserve to be the center of the game. This may come as a shock to the boards but the vast majority of those who play xwing don't give two craps about who "the top player" is. This game isn't centered around the tourney scene...something that this boars needs to be constantly reminded of. He already gets a trophy and the ability to design a card (which is something novel i'll give FFG that.) It would make him appear like an arrogant ****** (especially if he got to.create himself) and send the message that he is somehow more important than any other player who plays this game and that those who play in tournies are superior to those who don't. Just cause he is good doesn't give him the right to just insert himself into the game we all play.

This is a game about fantasy in a galaxy far far away...paul heaver (peace and blessings be upon him) exists hrr on a planet very close by. I don't need him in my games...he can stick to the tourney tables where he belongs...he shouldn't be immortalized and diefied in game. No player should be.

A move like this would really turn me off...and alot of others I would wager if they found out. You tourney people really really need to get over yourselves.

I totally agree with the part in bold. I think, though, that most of us are just joking about making a pilot card based on him. From what I've heard about the man, he would never agree to something like that; he seems too humble.

Oh, come on. Paul Heaver is a great guy; everything I've read about him is positive and speaks to his good character.

I doubt a Paul Heaver anagram pilot will ever surface in X-wing, but it'd be a cool nod if it did.

Pablo Hidalgo = Palob Godalhi. Yep, FFG's done it before.

So why not have a pilot named Ulpa Verhea as a Z-95 ace?

Except Palob was a character before he showed up in X-Wing.

Oh. Missed that part.

Here's what to do:

Make the pilot ridiculously point efficient. Like: 1.5 times as good as the Academy Pilot.

And obviously the "Paul Heaver" card is unique, so you can't run 2 in a list. Then _BOOM_ Paul can't run his own namesake, ever.

By buffing the Heaver, you nerf the Heaver.

No, but liking the above post should count for that?

Running down tourney players is like a Church League softball players getting all mad that the Kansas City Royals get all the attention. Paul Heaver is the undisputed best player at this game. That deserves some recognition.

Fun fact! Pablo Hidalgo is already a real person from this planet that FFG put in the game by switching some letters around.

But please tell me more about how it would make people mad. If the people that don't care about tournaments don't care about tournaments, they won't even know who Paul is, and will mean absolutely nothing to them in the first place. You can't rage about a thing you don't know exists.

They did say he gets to make any sort of card he wants, so technically he could make a unique pilot for an upcoming ship.

Whether he names it after himself or they do, I doubt he would though. I think he's an upgrade card guy when it comes to making new things.

As someone said above, the character was around before FFG used it. Still named after him I think, but not by FFG.

Bashing on a guy you barely know anything about other than the fact that he is the 3 time Xwing world champ and what you consider a dirty tourney player, yea real mature dude. Paul is a very good guy, I know him, talked with him, and had him commentate a game or two of mine so back off and grow up. People who go to these tournaments go to enjoy the game we all love and to meet new people and see what others come up with. Just cause you don't like a joke people are talking about doesn't mean you bash the person the joke is about so just calm down sir and fly casual

Slightly OT, but I don't wanna make a new thread...

Regarding Paul's build. I love me some Warthogs, but what would the drawbacks be to NOT taking BTL-A4 with R3-A2? Is it infinitely weaker/useless or would it still have a place?

I can't see placing R3-A2 on a Y-wing and not taking the title. Ever. The whole deal is you want to double stress someone. Needs to be in arc to use R3-A2 anyway.

Paul heaver card already made. ITs called calculation. It even has a picture of Paul and everything! (yes, I am implying Paul is grand admiral thrawn)

That's Xizor.

Oh crap..... I just saw the blue skin and assumed it was just a bad picture! Lol... I'm not too familiar with xizor......

Well, in that case I say the pheaver card would have a picture of thrawn on it then!

Racist.

Check yourself.

Make him a M3-A pilot, "fix" the Syck?

Has to be a Z-95 pilot.

IDK. Did you see how worn his Y Wing dial is? He needs to be a Y pilot, because clearly the man uses that ship a lot.

I'm not a fan of this idea really...there are other EU characters I would like to see before immortalising tournament players.

He already is a pilot. Tycho. And he does seem to play with unaffected by stress.

Pheaver Dream 3 point Modification

If an effect YOU control would cause you to become stressed or Ionized, you may choose to discard that token. if you do take one damage and roll one additional dice this round either attacking or defending.

Leebo crew synergy anyone? ;)

A few things jump out at me from your post:

1. Actually tournament players are superior to those who don't play in tournaments because we play at the highest level and with the best people possible, you simply cannot argue that a few friends playing on a coffee table on a Sunday afternoon are closet X-Wing geniuses that would stomp anyone that has every played competitively, and should help design the game instead.

- To add to the above point, tournaments offer controlled environments with builds and upgrades are exploited as much as possible to gain every inch, this is how game designers can get feedback about what really are the strongest pilots/upgrades in the game and not just what a few casual players think is broken because "last Sunday it murderized everything".

2. Paul has been a totally reasonable and levelheaded guy in every interaction I've had with him, I think it's safe to assume that he wouldn't put himself on a pilot card.

3. You need to do a gut check yourself, you clearly have a mile wide ego coming to an online forum where people come looking for help with their builds and who answers and help them? The tournament players, who best understand how the game works and the most efficient upgrade combinations because again - we play at a higher level. If you come on here being above it all and telling tournament players to get over ourselves, are you really demonstrating behavior that is any better than how you denounce us? or that benefits the community as a whole?

Naturally Paul will be humble and not make a card of himself - that's why I am asking for him. This way he's not being arrogant.
