So near yet so far scenario

By dutchy124, in Tide of Iron

Hi guys,

I am looking for some help.

I played the above scanario last weekend both as the Germans and then as the Americans. Can anyone tell me how the Germans can possible win? To start with 4 squads and no reinforcements I nor my mate, (an experienced board gamer), cannot work it out. Are we missing something?

Any ideas?

Come on guys, looking for people to try this scenario and work out how the Germans can win. Some of the vastly experienced players may know the answer, or is it just an unbalanced scenario? Surely it was play tested to ensure a possible win for both sides, but after four attempts I can't work it out.

I keep thinking I must be missing something glaringly obvious and would like someone to point it out.

Thanks

C

Yea...the game is full of flaws like that, the scenerio is the way it is. I use house rules to make necessary changes.

I understand there can be a bias, but as far as I can see it is impossible for the Germans to win. With my gaming buddy we have played around 6 scenarios, each time twice, Once as Germans, once as either British or Americans and have found them great to play, with both results possible. This one it seems only the Americans can win.

I haven't played the scenario my self, but I it sadens my to hear that also this senario is unbalanced. It is very irritating to not be able to sit down and play

a senario and find out during play that you should have housed ruled alot.

When it comes to solutions, I'm a bit suppriced that this scenario is as unbalanced as you clame.

You can put the entrenchements in forrest. If you also have three squads in the same square, including the medic specialisation. This give all troops

5 in cover, which is preaty good. With a double marchine-gun and a single marchine gun in op-fire mode, you can hope to kill enemies outright before they can see you. Then it is just a mater of hoping to be able to kill enough US troops to win before the US can take out your position.

Balancing this scenario should also be easy as it is just a matter of reduing the required number of units killed by the german.

where is this scenario?

In the Designer series vol 1 page 34

Have a go at it, I can't work out how the Germans have a chance of winning.

I have the book on order.

I had a quick look at the scenario rules and it's not clear to me how the Americans win. The victory conditions state that if the Germans control a building at the end of a round they win, which means, to prevent that, the Americans would have to occupy those buildings or eliminate any German defenders. Since the Americans can't reach those building hexes with their movement allowance from board 3A, the only way I could see how they win would be to eliminate all the Germans.

I must be reading something wrong. How are you winning as the Americans?

The latest FAQs correct this situation by stating "“At the end of Round 9, the Germans win if they control any building hex, or if they have destroyed eight or more American squads. Otherwise, the Americans win.” It also adds missing command points to the map.

It does appear to be tough for the Germans, but I have to smile at 4 MG's in continuous opfire, backed with Morale, Ground Support, and No Surrender? Hard to believe there isn't one in the win column for them.

Thanks, didn't realise there was some errata. It does seem a tad difficult for the Germans to hang on for 9 rounds...!!
