Picking up my first expansion

By Bahoola, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello!

I’m about to pick my first expansion to Arkham. So I’m wandering what my first pick should be.

So, we are generally 3 players when we game, and it works really grate, the game flees balanced. But if you add a player the game becomes too easy as it is. So I’m going to pick an expansion to up the challenge a bit. I’m not sure if a big expansion that adds a new map is going to be too hard. Anyhow, I will go with one of the smaller card expansions and have narrowed it down to either The King in Yellow or The Lurker at the Threshold.

But I have no clue how the different card expansions work? I’m leaning towards The Lurker as it adds more cards and gates. And it if I understand things correctly, you can still play with the new cards and skip the herald?

All expansions are modular, so that you can add whatever part of it you want to the game without any problems. So, you can add only the new cards of this expansion, or the Herald coming with that other one, or the new gates, and so on. So, no problems at all under this point of view.

If you have to add something, I'd go with Dunwich. Not only because of the board, but because of Madnesses and Injuries that really make the game a better experience. Also, 4 investigators play wonderfully with an expansion board, don't worry about that
