What two factions do you wanna see at the final table?

By TheycamefromBEHIND, in X-Wing

Evil? Here and there, but mixed with good and all in the grey area.

It seems you're running afoul of George Lucas' inconsistencies in storytelling. He tends to 'half-do' things. Like Queen Amidala. She is a child queen, but elected. This is a very odd contradiction that is the result of Lucas wanting to present a peaceful and just monarchy, with a queen who was capable of falling in love with the young Anakin. The details didn't really matter, even if it doesn't make sense.

I have a theory about that...

Suppose there' a high school applied Ethics/debate course with a competition for actual elected positions, with the highest seat being "Queen/King for a year." Amadala hapened to win it in time for the trade federation blocade- her responce got her a permanant goverment position as Senator (as long as the chain of high schol aged "queens" behind her continue to support her, but she's a heroine of naboo, so that's not an issue)

Queen of the year, that's awesome. Are they elected at Homecoming?

Only after serving on the planning committee.

It is entirely subjective; and even the morality of killing enemy combatants can be argued either way. What I want to see from the new movies, and stories in general, is that the author has considered this, and that even if the characters aren't aware of it, the fact that no-one considers themselves to be "the bad guys" still has an impact on the story.

Stories where nobody sees themselves as a bad guy are usually better for it, the 'bad guys' in these stories often see themselves as 'doing what needs to be done for the greater good'... Tywin Lannister being the example that pops into my head.

However, this is Star Wars. The general populace may be different, but those that can feel the pull of the Dark Side and the Light definitely feel that pull. The Dark Side is an insidious and malevolent entity, as much as I think it would be cooler this way, it is not merely an application of power corrupting. It is a tangible and measurable calling. Darth Vader picked a man up by the throat and crushed his windpipe while still asking him a somewhat rhetorical question, that is not a man conflicted and at no point in the OT does he feel he's still a good man forced to do bad things. On Endor and again in the Emperor's chambers, Darth Vader doesn't mince words. It is too late for him, and he's not talking bedtime. Luke doesn't know the power of the Dark Side, he tells him. Even in the end, (Spoiler Alert!) he hucks Wrinkly into free fall not to save the Galaxy or to 'become good', he's only saving his kid... not an altogther altruistic act.

Morality in the OT is pretty black and white and there aren't many more shades in the prequels. There have been plenty of stories that have added various definitions of good and evil and all things in between, but in my eyes and looking at just the movies, it's pretty cut and dry. Anakin Skywalker blocks the lightsaber that would have ended everything, and is just like, "Kill babies? You got it. I'll even do it with a sinister look and glowing eyes, cuz now I'm TOTALLY EVIL."

I'm not saying it's well written, but it is what we have to go on.

Aside: Ever wonder how Anakin's report went over at the Jedi Temple? "Oh, Count Dooku? Yeah the fight was over, I had defeated him and he was handless and on his knees in front of me. Chancellor Palpatine commanded me to kill him though, insisted on it ... so I committed murder and lopped the head off the completely defenseless man." Pause. "I did feel like I shouldn't have done that though, so it's cool."
