NEW FFG MATS AT WORLDS!

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Can't say I'm a fan of the design myself. Aside from just having a weird persepective, I prefer my backgrounds to be a little less busy and more subtle. That, and have my spaceships fight in, you know, space.

That Bespin is gorgeous!

This confirms atmospheric battles for X-Wing! Snowspeeders and Cloud Cars here we come!

Obv I'm joking, but **** a boy can dream!

Very pretty. Too bad it's as slippery as a hockey rink.

I don't mind the slip. It's a hundred times better than vinyl prints and more cinematic in appearance than the textured neoprene bottom. Just be delicate and careful with your stuff and some base line rules of thumb for when something happens for when foul you'd occur and there's no issue. Honestly our whole group plays on this type mat and we have more problems with people using sloppy handling of components than slop caused by the mat

They aren't THAT slippery. I've been using my FFG matts for a long time now and I love them. They also double for Armada - and for that game they are 100% perfect - the hard corners of the ship bases seems to "Dig" in to the mat and lock them in place.

They aren't THAT slippery.

Yes, they are. They're giant mouse pads. Mouse pads have two sides: a grippy side to hold the mat in place and a slick side to allow the mouse to glide easily. These mats have two redeeming qualities. They look nice and they always lay flat.

I play all my casual games on a Gripmat. Unfortunately at local tournies I often get stuck using an FFG mat and it becomes bumper cars (I'm a swarm player).

Dice bounce well on them too. But yeah, we end up playing on the bottom side nearly most of the time.

Looks terrible and not worth 40 bucks imo

Joe Boss Red Seven, you don't find the proportions "off" at all? Notice how close/focused the clouds are in relation to their distance to outerspace? The complete lack of every layer of Upper Atmosphere, including all the invisible layers that should blur those pretty clouds. This Bespin mat looks "shopped," when it could have looked like satellite imagery. Unfortunate, really. All fluff, zero oversight.

FLUFF... it IS Marvelous.

To that I agree. It's beautiful. Pity, Im a professional photographer and amateur nitpicker. I wish it was scaled better. As in, Bespin was further away (Cloud City would still be visible, same way New York City is visible from space). The horizon(ring) isn't blurry enough either.

And my wallet is screaming with Alex saying more mats are planned.

They are both lovely but I'm with some of the other posters - these are too "busy" for me, I prefer the 'blank' star field.

one little sliver of REAL news and everyone goes all gaga!!! lol nice mat for a poster. A bit busy for actual use if you ask me..

On the bright side, Death Star II is awesome! they fixed the scale of the Death Star (we would never be that close unless we were attacking it!), hint: it's much further away. And the Endor horizon(ring) is the right amount of blurry. Bravo.

In truly competitive games, a friend of mine has a magnetic mat we use. Dang. That is just awesome. Nothing slides at all. super easy to do measurements and things.

The rocks are glued to a steel washer and they dont move a millimeter.

Meh, it looks ok. The Deepcut Studio ones are better.

It's a picture of a city, floating on another planet...in a universe that has space magic. As art it looks great and was more than happy to give FFG 40$ for it.

Hmm still bugs me that they have rounded corners and I would like one to be made with just a plain starfield with the good grip on both sides.

Looks terrible and not worth 40 bucks imo

My only concern with these mats is how am I gonna store all these? Thanks FFG, great product. It's good thing I passed convenient to store with this game a long time ago....

Ugh. 2nd mat incoming.

So, does anyone know. when can we buy these? us non-worlds scrubbs.

As quick as the first two were available after they were annouced, I would imagine fairly quick. Already told my FLGS to order me one of each the day they go up. Remember when which mat you were gonna play on wasn't a thing?

Alright, next Epic match is going to be played on a 6'x6' play area.

But wait, Bespin is at Parsec 4 and Yavin is at Parsec 5 and Endor is at Parsec 9. How could they all be in the same battlezone? :o

It just looks cool to have all 4 mats in one spot okay

That Bespin mat is so **** cool looking but I do have to wonder is it a bit too much.

Would it get hard to look at after a few hours of play and will tokens just melt away...

So **** cool.....my wallet please FFG have some pitty

This is how I am going to set up all 4 mats.
