Rebels - Poe + 2 Greens

By Chioxin, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I was just kinda curious what folks thought of this. I've played it once now and it worked pretty well I thought.

I right now, really enjoy playing it a lot, but I had a few thoughts, and a few suggestions to make it even a bit better.

I'm trying to decide on why I want to bring one of the shield repping bots, and not BB-8. BB-8 is pretty awesome, I love the maneuverability and flexibility he brings. There's been a number of times I Barrel Rolled, Boosted, moved 3, and focus or target locked. Awesome. And it helped, and I nailed people with that right there. The entire idea behind this grouping of pilots was for fast in and out attacks. So fantastic.

The next "change" someone suggested, was to trade Push the Limit on my A's, for Predator instead. Now, as cool as that is, it means I can't turtle when I need to. It definitely makes my A-'s 2 shot attacks a lot more powerful though. Maybe though, I should? It would really help the P-Rockets out too.

Auto-thrusters, or Stealth Device. I went with auto-thrusters, because it will never go away. So far stealth device is lost to me on the first shots anyway. [Maybe I play A-'s horribly, I dunno.] So I thought the thrusters were better, and it helps against turreted ships anyway.

FINALLY....

P-rockets. I absolutely love them, and they're a seriously devastating attack when the opportunity arises. However, I could drop them entirely, go with Charadan Refits, and instead get some powerful pilot abilities with say... Jake, or Gemma... or maybe even grab Tycho? Or maybe Arvel for some great blocking plays. TONS of options there.

So... thoughts? I'm probably going to try a few of the variations above for funnzies! But some educated thoughts would be awesome too. I do not want to trade out the A's for other ships though. I like my A's. I want to use them, I want to use more of them. I understand their weaknesses.

I think your feelings about the different upgrade possibilities make sense.

BB-8 + PTL vs. R5-P9 + predator/lone wolf: both are pretty effective on Poe, but result in very different flying. I wouldn't say one is better than the other, but some people might. If you're liking BB-8 PTL, I say stick with it.

predator vs PTL (on green squad): generally push the limit is better because of the ability to focus + evade. You have a low PS so arc-dodging is unlikely for these guys. Predator is nice because it does give slightly more consistent damage results and opens up your dial (not stressed, so all moves open unless you k-turn). However, in conjunction with outmanoeuvre, you don't necessarily need predator as long as you can get one of the a-wings in a good flanking spot. So I would say again stick with what you have.

Proton Rockets: these are best on high PS. With low PS they struggle to fire off against higher PS opponents. If all you meet is PS2 or less, then they will be excellent. They still work fine on higher PS enemies that are incapable of boosting or barrel rolling. However, if you find that you are not using them as much as you like, consider switching them for concussion missiles. You won't be able to fire them on the first turn of shooting, because you won't get the target lock right away, but once you have it, it will be easy to send them off. And combined with a focus token and outmanoeuvre, they should hurt plenty.

Green vs unique pilot: the greens are pretty good for their points. However, you could juggle the list around and have Jake + a prototype pilot. In that case, you could use Jake as a lone flanker and the proto pilot as a blocker to help keep Poe from being overwhelmed. I would only make such a change if you were struggling with keeping Poe alive...

Wow thanks! Tons of great information and confirmation of thoughts. After having a look at Concussions, I think I'm going to go ahead and put those on the greens now instead of protons. What was great about the greens with protons, is that the opponent was quite scared of them... but I definitely see myself at range 2-3 a lot more or simply out of arc due to arc dodging. The Concussions will also fit my style really well anyhow, as I like to fly on the outskirts [each A takes one flank while poe dances somewhere in the middle,] and from there they'll turn and dart after the focus target I've decided on. They do their thing, and 5 straight out of there to re-position again. I can definitely see myself darting in and getting locks, darting out to reposition and then re enter and launch the missiles. [FIRE ZEE MISSILES!] =D

The rest I'll just leave alone for now =)

Thanks again for that info though! Very helpful to make decisions with.

BM pretty much nailed it for me. Just in your last post though, I'd be wary of committing Poe to the middle. He is both your big hitter and best end game ship and you should protect him accordingly.

Any time an opponent has flown his Poe centrally I've been able to collapse in on him and melt him quickly.

Depends what your facing and the game board of course but you don't want Poe swamped.
