Starfighters!?

By generalchaos34, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

So I have been noticing in most of the list that few people use star fighters in their builds, is this a taste thing (MOAR SHIPS!!!!) or is the meta opposed to having squadrons in any noticeable quantity?

I've always liked the idea of dueling capitol ships with their fighter escorts and bombers zipping around between them, especially with Rebel Fighters being heartier and more versatile in being able to engage ships after they dispatch fighter screens.

What is your experience with squadrons? Do you think that the inclusion of scum mini ships will bring a return of squadrons?

I never leave home without tie fighters! They always come through for me and earn their points twice over despite popular opinion. Perhaps i've just been lucky, who knows..

The list I ran at my last tourny I ran 8 Y wings and Luke with 2 AFs Carrier builds with Dodonna and I placed Second. Could have got first if I didn't play so conservatively worried about loosing second place. I like my bombers. They killed an AF in 1 round with AF support.

playing without squadrons makes the game a lot easier, as the ship/squadron dynamic requires even more forethought and positioning than just playing with ships

they're stupidly effective, however, especially on the poor fools who don't bring theirs :P

In the previous meta a lot of players did not take fighters due to the way that ships had to divert large amounts of time and resources to shuffling fighters across the board. Further, official rules designed for tournament play made fighters a potential liability if they could have been sacrificed to add ships. In wave 2, it's expected that players on both sides will use a lot more fighters due to the higher points limit and some very powerful squadrons in the Rogues and Villains expansion.

The smartest way to look at fighters from a list standpoint is as a ship upgrade. If your ship isn't making constant use of the squadron command, they probably aren't a very effective upgrade unless they have the Rogue keyword.

Getting squadrons alone "correct" will not win games for you but getting it "wrong" WILL lose games for you.

I almost sure that squadrons are going to be seen in a lot more lists because they are going to be easier to use in wave 2. With so many fighters with the Rogue perk and the inclusion of the Intel perk, It will be easier to take your fighters past the screen of just 2 or 3 fighters.
