Hey guys. I was just wondering how that extra 100 points will affect everyone's play style. I've noticed that a lot of the winning fleets using a lot of cheep ships for the activations. With an additional 100 points, do you think people will opt to add an extra fleet ship or keep the number of ships the same but deck them out a bit more?
Wave 2: Cheap or upgraded?
So many options!
Wave 1 feels right at 400 points and wave 2 feels a little tight but not constricted
Depends on definitions of the two
I can't imagine running any medium+ ship naked, but also with more than 1-2 upgrades (3 max if third is title)
Only the isd-2 tempts me to going overboard. Even the mc-80 is just comma+ecm+independence/defiance to me
Edited by ficklegreendiceugh seriously wave2 400 feels like wave1 300. NOT ENOUGH
augh.
im usually not one to complain about points, but seriously, I wish we had about 50 more points for upgrades/+1 fighter etc.
Won a really interesting Wave 2 game last night in which I didn't actually bring any Wave 2 stuff, but my opponent did, so should still be a fairly valid measure. Certainly, it was a pair of pretty wonky fleets, but my activation advantage was huge, and I think it demonstrates that naked ships can certainly be a thing. And I usually lean toward heavy upgrades, so it's not like I'm on a crusade to prove a point or anything.
Rebels were Player 1, Empire was Player 2. We played his Opening Salvo.

****...nice to see cr90's will still have place in wave 2.
I agree with all of your points! A lot of places I see are running wave 1 400 points. I guess that just means a lot of ppl will play wave 2 500 point games.
I kind of understand the point limitation though. It forces smart upgrades rather than letting people go crazy with them.
I think its the combination of the two. Empire have enough points now to have their big ships with at least a few upgrades, and the Rebels have some points to feel like real fleets. Under 300 it felt like most "balanced" lists were 2-3 ships. Under 400 it can go out to 3-4 ships.
I'm okay with not feeling like there's enough points to go around. Its why I agonized over my Sullust list and made fine tweaks to it constantly. Me and a buddy would talk through our lists and constantly be like "I think you should add this" and realize that yes that would be great but you would have to sacrifice something else that might be equally great. You can't cover everything and cutting the fat out of the lists piece by piece was a lot of fun.
I think that the difference is that 400 point fleets are mostly just 300 point fleets, but your upgrades start adding efficiency instead of taking it. Weirder and more esoteric upgrades start making sense since you can combo more ships and squadrons. In particular, offensive upgrade combos that reduce defense ability are much more powerful, such as by taking Intel Officer and XI-7s to shut down solo braces or evades.
