NO X-WING GROUND WAR GAMES...

By Joe Boss Red Seven, in X-Wing

Plus, in Rebellion, you could put Thrawn on a SSD.

I have the opposite problem.. I need games to have 6 player options. Most cap out at 5.

I would highly recommend Talisman. A very good multi-player game. Though the Reaper expansion is a must have.

My group used to play with more than 6players easily.

Another game I would highly recommend is Twilight Imperium but beware i does take some time to get through.

Or if TI is a bit to long running then Eclipse will scratch that same itch but takes half the time. I really love the ship customization. The expansion is not a must but it will allow for up to 8 players

I would love to play twilight imperium.. However, some of the guys I game with could take 15 minutes to move 3 ships in x-wing. I don't have that kind of time..

A friend of mine wanted us to play his Twilight Imperium game. He drove us to his beach house where he had an entire room devoted to that game. Nobody in his family was allowed to enter that room because he usually kept "savegames" for games that lasted 2 or 3 days.

We started a new campaign and after 6 hours we were exhausted and we were nowhere close to 30% of the game to be completed.

He locked that room with the ongoing game waiting to be retaken, but somehow the rest of the weekend we managed to convince him to do other things. He kept the room locked for 3 more weeks until he finally got the idea that we weren't really ready to spend any more 6 hour sessions on it.

It was not a bad game, but... it's just a game that lives better as a computer game than as a board game.

Ok. A few issues with your post.

Another reason why...

What on earth does this game have to do with the likelihood of a 1/270th scale, ground based miniature wargame? This is a galactic scale strategic board game. If anything, this makes a ground game more likely since they are, in fact, apparently covering all the various levels of operation.

Who is going to pay $75 each for the three (you know you want three) in scale AT-AT's anyhow... which is what it would be.

Um..., no it wouldn't be $75 for a less than 3" tall AT-AT. $30, tops. They'd be a bit smaller than the x-wing scale falcon, after all. How the heck do you figure $75?

And finally...

for the three (you know you want three) in scale AT-AT's

3?! Would need at least 4, probably 6 for a proper battle. I already have 2 of the old WotC 28mm scale ones.

Am seriously looking forward to this game though. I love the grand, strategic theatre.

AT-AT's and AT-ST's SHOULD BE THIS SIZE in X-WING... and that is a good ole $75'ish FFG Span-tion.

Never mind that I have been more right than wrong for the last tree years calling what we might get.

:P

Now if FFG does a Land Wars game despite the IMPERIAL ASSAULT and this... well great.

I ain't holding my breath waiting for it, because I do not think it is happening.

;)

Those walkers are about two to three times the size they should be to be in scale. You'd be better off with the titanium AT-AT and micro machine AT-ST.

NOPES...

What I have setup is kinda perfect and right on the $$$.

;)

Nope, if put the AT-AT (25m as seen in TESB and ROTJ) at the right scale, it would be this big ;)

I loved Star Wars: Rebellion back then ... its been 17 years now??

Its on my list.

Seems to be a cross between Risk and Scotland Yard ^^

He wasn't talking about scale, Rogue leader!

I am always confused when people obsess about fictional scales in a movie that is inconsistent as hell with things like that (see Falcon, A-Wings, AT-ATs in different perspectives).

It ain't worth the fuss... I know what I saw in the films and what I see on my table... it is all good baby.

X-Wings & Y-Wings are not half the size of an AT-AT. Neither is an Imperial Lambda bigger than one.

:rolleyes::huh::D

Uhm, this picture supports the 22m (and so my picture) ;) Scaled by 1/270 an AT-AT is about 8 cm high. Or in other words: An X-Wing (~12m) is more than half as high as an AT-AT and more than half as long. Proof: On this picture a Trooper is 15mm high. The AT-AT is 185mm high. 185/15 = 12. Lets take the stated 1,8m hight for Troopers. 12*1,8m = 21,6m. Than we consider a small mistake factor we have this picture showing an AT-AT with a hight between 21m and 24m. For comparison: The Lambda Shuttle is 20m high ;)

That wouldn't look anywhere near as good, though. AT-ATs have to be the hugest thing around, then the feel is right!

Then you need to play it in a ground game with infantry, because in a game with actual starfighters, it's just not that big.

Keep in mind that Snowspeeders are less than half the size of an A-Wing. An AT-AT is only two TIE Fighters long.

Keep in mind that the A-Wing cockpit is a magic space bending place that is larger on the outside than on the inside ;) Scale is not consistent in Star Wars, so if Joe has something that feels right to him, that is what is perfect.

For his own homebrew game, sure.

But if FFGs ever put out AT-ATs I would expect them to be in scale to the actual technical specifications.

If this is a standalone game with no expansions then I might get it. If it's going to have lots of expansions (like, more than one) then I'll probably pass.

It looks... ok. Not great. Interested to see how it works with 3 or 4 players.

Or just...don't buy the expansions.

Wait, what?

I'm pretty sure that's not even a thing...

But the discusson wasabout what FFG would do and what the right scale of the AT-AT is ;)

We all know our FFG boys will slide dat scale to make it look right on the table...

Same thing I am doing, and it is sweet. Looks almost just like the films.,,, and that is all I need it to do; Look great and be fun as hels to play.

I have a folder full of scale and technical charts and stills from the films and art and such. What I have put together is about as right as it gets with these models and I love it.

:)

I don't think they change the scale of their epics ships to "make it look right". I think they do it for reasons of making their models still fall within the realm of being reasonable to store and transport.

Hey Joe!

Care to throw down some concept stats for your AT-AT?

I think we can all agree that it doesn't have any shields and giving it shields is a big no no.

Do you think it should just have heaps of hull or should it have a damage negating ability like an armor value? After all it's armor is "too strong for blasters".

Here is a pic of my ones for scale and they look about right.

Product page says $99.95, Obviously less via online retailers like Cool Stuff.

I'm really surprised by this. I thought Hasbro had the board game license and something like this wasn't possible. But I'll definitely take it! :)

Sounds about right

Twilight emperium is around that price

Sounds like this is sort of similar but not quite

Well likely have couple expansion down the road

Our group will likely get this one asap.

We've played the crap out of Twilight emperium, civilization, xcom, and many others

Not for starfighter laser cannons.

Anyway, lots of hull, moves like an epic ship, 3-4 attack, and a couple Crew slots.

Actually, I've seen someone stat up an entire set of cards for Hoth forces on facebook. Here's a couple:
