A New Star Trek series!

The difference is trek shields stop both energy and physical attacks while wars just stops energy,

Debatable. In revenge, anakin and obi wan had to take out the shields on grevious' ship before they could fly into the docking bay, it is quite obvious they have shields that prevent atmosphere from escaping for a docking bay, ray shields trapped anakin, obi wan and palpatine in the corridor (always really hated that part).

Plus, most ships fire energy weapons at capital ships by default. If shields could only protect vs energy and not physical projectiles, no one would ever shoot anything else at capital ships.

Basically, shielding is another area of SW lore that is not terribly well thought out and that the designers freely ignore when making a story (which is why it's fantasy, not sci fi).

Yeah in ANH they specifically say that the exhaust port doesn't have the kind of shielding that protects against torpedoes which means there are shields that defend against such attacks but the port didn't have them (If I remember right the shields that would block torpedoes would also stop the exhaust.from leaving the port and thus prevent the port from fulfilling its purpose) And in ESB they had to lower Echo Base's shield to let the transports fly out which wouldn't be necessary if the shields didn't block physical objects.

The difference is trek shields stop both energy and physical attacks while wars just stops energy, so fighters shooting waves of torpedoes can do massive damage to a capital ship.

But in trek fighters are ineffective compared to even a science ship.

Most Star Wars shields stop physical objects. Hence why the Star Destroyers bringing their shields down in the asteroid field was risky, and why the Rebels couldn't fly into the second Death Star until the shield was down. Clone Wars showed more of this; Droideka shields will stop quick-moving physical objects, so to defeat them with grenades you have to roll the grenade slow enough to let it pass through.

X-Wing also demonstrates this; torpedoes and missiles, with few exceptions, deal damage to shields instead of doing damage directly to the hull. Asteroids deal damage to shields before dealing damage to the hull.

Ray shields don't stop physical objects. The Death Star exhaust port was ray-shielded, presumably so it could let out exhaust.

On a side note, torpedoes are relatively much harder hitting in Star Trek compared to Star Wars. Very few capital ships are seen using missiles or torpedoes in Star Wars. Turbolasers are the big guns used for ship to ship combat, while torpedoes and missiles tend to be the territory of fighters. Then think about how many capital ship battles in Star Trek are resolved with torpedoes.

Except for the ones that trapped anakin, obi wan and palpatine on grevious' ship

Gotta love that consistency.

Prequels are full of things that contradicts the universe which is why I ignore them.

If shields stop physical attacks how does a fragile a-wing take out the bridge of a supper star destroyer? The kinetic energy isn't stronger than the laser cannons on a capital ship surely.

Torpedoes completely bypass shields and they have a physical core, they are what make a squadron of y-wing's a viable threat to a star destroyer which is why it has to have a fighter screen to intercept them.

And docking bays don't have shields they keep the air in with a magnetic field.

Because the shields were down. "Sir! They've taken out our bridge deflector shield!"
