Tie/FO's: Is the swarm back?

Yes, but besides the Rebels, how many years after their film appearance did it take for people like Mauler Mithel, Backstabber, Winged Gundark, etc to actually get names?

Just make something, anything up! They don't have to be movie names, just something that isn't so generic and forgettable.

They can't do that! Everything has to be cleared with Disney/Lucas and they are saving them for future expansion.

I prefer my squishy tie fighters don't have names. That's exactly how's they'd be know to the empire/first order. Some bigwig Moff isn't gonna be like 'yeah send Dave and Jim out with some of epsilon squad to intercept the rebels'. He's gonna be all like send epsilon squad leader and a detachment from omega squad to kick some ass!'

I see these guys in the ties less as heroic named individuals and more as chumps who survived a couple of engagements because they learn a couple of outside the Academy skills along he way. Luke dies, there's a tremor in the force. Epsilon leader dies, there's 1000 more chumps waiting in line for his job

They had no problem making up names for other pilots.

I don't know about swarms, but I love the new Tie/FO. Works great with Col. Vessery and the Tie Defender. I need to get 2 more FO's to do Col. V and 4 Epsilons.

At the moment, I fly Col. V w/ Maarek Stele and 2 Epsilon. It's a solid list.

One of the things I like about the FO is the S-loop. If you have a low PS and know you are going to bump, it gets hard to figure out where to do where you aren't out of the action for too long. The S-loop really helps them find a place to move and still have a shot. I just need to get better at not bumping with them when trying!

I have tried Weapons Guidance on the Epsilon, which was good as I knew if I needed to use the Focus for defense or not. My only problem was I tended to roll well enough with the FO's that I just didn't need it that often. I also scrapped them for Engine Upgrade on Maarek.

Take vessery with three AC advanced instead you get 8-9 guaranteed booms, after the first turn you can b roll or take defensive action with no loss to damage output.

Wouldn't Vessery prefer to fly with ATC Advances? He kinda wants those target locks on the board.

FFG didn't make up any names. It was all Lucas Arts and many products after the original A New Hope that gave all those Tie Fighter Pilots actual names. That's what I'm saying.....they DIDN'T HAVE NAMED TIE FIGHTER PILOTS WHEN EP IV CAME OUT. It took years to get these generic guys/gals names. Ep 7 isn't even out yet and you guys want these guys named. Give them as long as it took the original guys to get names.

I like having the Tie FO's. I think they have a better dial. It also allows me to have Maarek Stele as an ace with Col. V. and two cheaper Epsilons for blockers and such. I like the list.

No the beauty is you target lock three different ships giving vessery his choice of victims then for the rest of the game they focus or evade dramatically increasing their durability while never missing a shot.

ATC generics are bad because whatever you TL my go out of your arc costing you a shot, AC advanced just shoot anything in arc.

I like the FO TIEs and can't wait for the expansions. Until then I can't fly a swarm. I have 2 TFA cores and I don't think I'm gonna buy another... unless Santee Claws hooks me up.

Where did "Whisper" and "Echo" come from? Where did the Raider come from? FFG has made up stuff before, why couldn't they just make up some callsigns for these pilots? They could even just use a random name generator, those crank out names less stupid than half the star wars names anyways.

I know generics prefer the AC to the ATC for the reasons stated about, but it seems like a wasted opportunity to fly a ship that likes to leave its target locks on the board with a ship that needs target locks on the board, and then not use the ATC to make use of those target locks. Why not save some points and fly the FOs instead?

These ships feel sort of odd to fly. The stock TIE/ln is an incomplete fighter. It's cheap and plentiful, and has sufficient teeth for the points you pay, but can't be expected to do certain things. The TIE/fo feels like a fully formed fighter, albeit a small, lightweight one. It's just got enough extra capabilities to be reliable in ways that TIE/lns don't. I can't really describe it better than that right now, and that's a little frustrating. The TIE/fo is a fighter that can get a modest number of things done for you before it dies, the TIE/ln is a fighter than can get a modest number of things done... if it brings friends.

The Raider came from LFL and FFG working very closely together to develop a new Epic suitable ship for X-Wing. It was over a year in design and approval between the two of them. I'm fairly sure that FFG wouldn't be allowed to just "make stuff up" as they go along. There's so many layers of License Approvals and permissions that they have to go through. If there's no names, I'd put far more into LFL/Disney doesn't want the names leaked, if they do in fact even have names yet.

I think the Original Core is of much better value. Very few upgrade cards come with the TFA Core. One is enough.

I'm not a fan of the generic TIE f/o's, but the unique pilots have a lot of potential. Omega Leader [juke, comm relay] is going to be an incredible game closer, and hopefully we get some actual named pilots in the expansion as well.

Epsilon Leader to me has the most potential. I've stated this in another thread, but his/her ability isn't just a PTL enabler - especially since the TIE f/o has such a great dial already. To me, the biggest benefit is consecutive Segnor's or K-turns. It makes a TIE block incredibly hard to predict and gives it a huge edge in some engagements.

TIE DeFOnders! I agree, and I'll add that it opens up Segnor's (and run of the mill white moves) for PTL miniswarms.
