I do not think I have the time to dive head-into 2nd Ed competitive play (nor is there a local scene, so far, in Oslo, Norway, as far as I know) but I have bought the box to play casually with my little GoT series viewing group. During off-season we met every other week or so to play boardgames and watch other series relative to our interests, and I imagined the card game would be a good and thematic way to spend the time. We're trying the in-box decks with four players, but if we wanted some variation (probably netdecking a lot) how many boxes or future expansion sets do you think we'd need to have a good, casual game going with some deck variation?
How many sets would be necessary for (very) casual play?
1 for an introduction the the game, 2 for an introduction to deckbuilding. 3 is only really a requirement for 'competitive' (tournament) decks, and even that is probably temporary - as more cards are released, you'll probably have a smaller need for the 3rd core. That said, if you're playing melee with four players though, the mileage you get out of a 3rd core is excellent.
As cards are released, I suspect you'll probably leaan towards picking up the 'deluxe' expansions, which should complement the core nicely and will (probably) be themed around factions. In 1st edition, you'd often recommend the core + a house deluxe box for each player to give them the deck building variety they needed.
Yeah, if you find out anything in Oslo, do post in the relevant section (might be some at Ares, but I haven't checked it out for years)
I agree that 3 boxes with 4 players is probably very beneficial. There will be a few core cards you always (or almost always) want. The roads, for instance - has anyone in the history of any edition skipped them?
I bought two cores, and I think that will be enough for my personal decks at least. There's just very little variation until the packs start showing up. I think 4-6 packs in we'll have some passable deckbuilding options for each faction. Having 8 right out of the box means there will be few for each outside the deluxe expansions. I really hope they focus even more on just one faction per expansion, or maybe opposing pairings like the Star Wars deluxe boxes have, and any other cards are just neutrals.

I hear you there, but I also worry if they focus on only 1 house. That some houses are going to be left behind and unplayable in competitive play in tell they get new cards

Yeah, that's the danger of that way of distributing. I guess I'll have to observe the inevitable complaint threads on the Star Wars LCG forum to get a feel of how people like it
I would Also say that 3 cores is good for casual play. You get enough money locations for 4 deck by buying 3 cores.
I keep playing events where other people borrow my decks so I am thinking of getting 6 cores, so that I can build 8 ready decks where people can chose From.
