TLT + screen

By Gausebeck, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I was thinking about list ideas where half the list would charge right in and engage while some TLT Y-Wings would keep their distance and pound away. The screening units would need to be tough (since they'd be charging directly in and drawing attention) but also need to have enough firepower that ignoring them would hurt. Brawlers, basically, but with a defensive bent.

Scum Y-Wings would be preferable since they can have more consistent damage with the R4 Agromech, but Rebel can work, too. The simplest version would be 4 Zs as the screen (YYZZZZ):

Syndicate Thug + Twin Laser Turret + R4 Agromech (26)

Syndicate Thug + Twin Laser Turret + R4 Agromech (26)

Binayre Pirate (12)

Binayre Pirate (12)

Binayre Pirate (12)

Binayre Pirate (12)

As Rebel, you could use B-Wings (BBYY):
Dagger Squadron Pilot + Fire Control System (26)
Dagger Squadron Pilot + Fire Control System (26)
Gold Squadron Pilot + Twin Laser Turret (24)
Gold Squadron Pilot + Twin Laser Turret (24)
Another option would be a defensive Aggressor. More a dancer than a brawler, but it could hopefully have enough tricks to still fit the description of tough and too dangerous to ignore.
IG-88C + Lone Wolf + Advanced Sensors + Autothrusters + Glitterstim + Seismic Charges (47)

Syndicate Thug + Twin Laser Turret + R4 Agromech (26)

Interesting thoughts. I like the idea of sending waves of Binayre Pirates ahead so they can block enemies and deny actions. Seems solid to me. Too bad you can't fit Dead Man's Switch on a couple of those Zs so they can get up close and dare the enemy to destroy them.

I've been thinking about a different kind of screen:

Trandoshan Slaver (29)

-Tactical Jammer (1)

Syndicate Thug (18)

-Twin Laser Turret (6)

Syndicate Thug (18)

-Twin Laser Turret (6)

This comes out to 78 points. Basically, you fly the YV-666 forward and keep your Y-wings behind it so that attacks against them are obstructed. With the remaining 22 points, you can do a few different things. One thing you can do is upgrade to Hired Guns to avoid devastation by Predator. You could also put the title on the YV-666 since it's likely to die first. Alternatively, you could use those 22 points to get a Glitterstim-Lone Wolf-N'dru on your team with a 1-point initiative bid. But I'm not sure how scary that is without the cluster missiles.

The problem with this version is that the TLTs may not reach that far. I haven't tried it out yet. It seems your opponent would just scare everyone out of range-1 of the YV-666 since that's where the TLTs could also pound them.

I thought of this:

Syndicate Thug (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R4 Agromech (2)

Syndicate Thug (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R4 Agromech (2)

Syndicate Thug (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R4 Agromech (2)

Syndicate Thug (18)
Autoblaster Turret (2)
Unhinged Astromech (1)

Total: 99

The ABT gives your donut hole cover as your opponent can't simply boost into range 1 in fear of taking auto damage.

I actually need two more Y-wings to run it. :(
