Whose the 5th guy in the sleeping bag?

By Big Remy, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I'm sure I'm not the first to notice this, but why on earth does the campsite tile have 5 sleeping bags for the outdoor encounters? Did the Heroes have someone sleepover for the night, and he just sleeps through the battle?

Or is it a decoy bunk? The monsters go and attack it thinking there is a Hero there, and then Nanok pops up out his bag and hacks n slashes them to death?

I think it is a decoy bunk that they have laced with monster pharamones in order to be sure they attack it instead of the actual heroes

It's the party's torch-bearer. He's also very fast and can distribute items from chests alost instantainiouslt ;)

The 'Guide'?

All the familiars snuggled up for warmth?

If someone of the heroes has the ability necromancy, they will need another bag because...

No, I think I don't want to think about it...

I agree inle_badger , It is the Guide.

One of Mad Carthos' multiple personalities?

I too figured it would be the guide.

From a mechanics standpoint: So that the heroes have options about how they set up.

From a realism standpoint: Since when is Descent realistic?

I believe it is one of Brave Sir Robin's minstrels!

(and there was much rejoycing)

See? Now you just killed some of the fun in this happy.gif

Actually, I think it opens up all sorts of other possibilities. Since we are no longer bound by realism. You can come up with anything.

Perhaps the Giant Space Bunny comes down some nights to sleep with them; thus, they have to keep a sleeping bag out just in case.

Nice.

Maybe Mad Cathros uses that extra bag to keep his Precious that he carries with him?

LOL I wonder if Mata and Cata like the idea of sharing a mat with Boggs. And I know that Furr is a spirit, but what if he decides to join them? Oh the noise!

Or maybe that bag is an offer for the overlords avatar. Maybe this lonely soul is in search for some friends and a couple of mates to share the cold nights with...

Ponder this... Any rule that applies to a Hero or a Player may never apply to the Overlord... However all of the normal monster cards count the Overlord as a Player for the purpose of determining their difficulty.

So perhaps the 5th sleeping bag is the only other time that the Overlord is a Hero.

Besides... Evil-doing is tiring work. Why shouldn't he get a sleeping bag?

"Dude, who's that guy over there, cackling?"

"I don't know, but I have a bad feeling about this. Let's get some sleep."

"Yeah, what could possibly go wrong?"

And then the OL launches Operation Slumber Party.

OH THE HORROR!!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

In the 5th sleeping bag, all the Party Upgrades are hidden: The Boat, The Staff, The Map etc. Nobody else in the party carries it, but it is at the campsite that we see they are really with the Party.

Oh, so its really just a tarp over the boat.

That's a pretty small boat, barely a canoe.

Its the overlord. How else do you think he's always keeping tabs on the party and controlling all the monsters? Have you priced crystal balls or seeing pools and anything that gets cell phone reception on the third floor basement of a dungeon has got to be worth well over several gold pieces, whereas steal potions are 50 apiece and ghost like powers being so easy to get a starting hero can have it. Its so much more gold and conquest token effective to always be lurking around the group. The heroes are just SO good that they share their fire.
